EBAY ALERT: BUYER BEWARE OF THESE AUCTIONS

34 posts in this topic

I wanted to post this earlier, but I wanted to be sure of my information before I did. The seller is JENWSAMW:

SELLER JENWSAMW ITEMS FOR SALE

For the purpose of this warning, focus on the Journey into Mystery comics for sale. This seller is selling his whole collection, and I believe that to be true, but beware of serious overgrading. 1 to 1.5 grades at least, maybe more!

About 2 weeks ago he was selling an Avengers full run 1-401, and in the description, he stated that you could contact him and get information on his full run of Journey into Mystery. I contacted the seller, and he sent me a full list of his Thor and Journey into Mystery on an excel spreadsheet, which is attached above.

I decided to buy 83,89,92,94,and 95, and 100 at the condition stated for about 90% of guide, the 83 at about 60% of guide.

He then listed the other JIM on ebay. In all his descriptions he states how he is undergrading everything and he is a conservative grader. Now look at his JIM's up for auction, and compare the advertised grade with the grade on the spreadsheet attached. EVERYTHING IS BUMPED ONE HALF GRADE AT LEAST! 893frustrated.gif893frustrated.gif893frustrated.gif893frustrated.gif

The worst part is I received the books in the mail today, and they are even below the stated grade on the spreadsheet!

I am going to post an attachment with the 83 as part of it. I give it a 5.5 at best.

All the others are at least 1 grade below the grade on the spreadsheet, which makes them at least 1.5 grades lower than what they would have been on ebay. You can see I am telling the truth, as the ones I bought are the issues that are not up for auction. tonofbricks.giftonofbricks.giftonofbricks.gif

DON'T BECOME A VICTIM TOO!! JUST SAY NO!!

I want to attach the 83 to show you, but the attachment is over 150k. I am trying to paste it, but it won't paste here.

Any instruction would be appreciated.

Can't help you with the attachments but I can certainly sympathize with the predicament. Since all your purchases were off eBay, you don't even have the usual recourse of negging the seller. (Of course, you could buy one more book via eBay and then neg the guy outta principle, but that just wouldn't be right... smile.gif)

Thanks for the heads-up, although frankly this sounds pretty par for the course with 'random newbie sellers'

Yes, but the point is he overgraded went he sent the list to me, then he ratcheted up the grades again when he listed them on ebay, then of course describes himself as conservative.

About as conservative as Hillary Clinton! boo.gif

I lowered the DPI to 100 to make it fit.

The page quality is pretty poor, the cover feels very brittle, and the top edge is pretty rough. The cover is attached to the staples, but the is some pull and looseness to it. I will send it to CGC to see what it gets.

The 83 looks VGF and the 92 VG.

What did he grade them as... FVF!? confused.gif

edit: After reading the thread...

A VGF with well tanned pages; almost brittle...? mad.gif

GVG/VG- then for pricing/value... 893censored-thumb.gif

second edit:

This is why I won't buy a major dollar book unless it's slabbed anymore!

Even if it's from a good guy, they might have missed something... sumo.gif

I also won several ebay auction from this guy jenwsamw. However, after reading the warning posted by ross I decided to contact several of his past winners via his recent feedback to see how their experience was with this seller. Well, they all said he overgraded and some even complained of missing cover pieces and water stains. I promptly forward these emails to the seller and told him the only way our deal was to happen is if he lowered the price. Finally, I just told him to [!@#%^&^] off.

We have not hit each other with neg. feedbacks (yet). But, now he just started to send non paying bidders alerts. What can I do? Is there any recourse I have to inform Ebay this guy is a scumbag?

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated...

Regards,

bhampel
