FF 5 : What Are The Chances...

As usual Doc, there is more to this than meets the eye.

Deniability is the key word here.

In the four+ years I've been on these boards.....I have found that one can't be too suspicious enough!

In the end, some collector will overpay for a book based on phony scans and auction copy that is totally absurd.

Before I joined these boards I would have never dreamed about 99 % of the stuff people pull in auctions.Selling vg/fn books as nm?I guess that takes some stones.

Brad are those all Green River books?Impressive.

... that its a NM/NM+

possible trimming also mentioned.

Alot of pics and the book does look pretty sweet hm

You like to gamble?

The right and bottom edge of the book appear to be slightly trimmed. This appears to have been done very neatly and professionally and it was only determined under careful inspection.

Well, if it was done neatly and professionally... :insane:

Book about to end at $2,650.00 with no change in the auction. Good going, Gus! meh

BTW who wrote this semi-pornographic copy to go with the auction? Gus? Without seeing the book itself?

Yes it's true! Your eyes are not deceiving you! This book is in mind-blowing conditon. (Sure, especially since no one at Silver Age has actually seen the book in person.)

We've seen many FF #5s in our day (but not, actually this one), but none with the eye appeal of this one. NONE! This book has no marks, no writing, and no date stamps. There are no creases, no rips, no chips, and no tears.

There is good cover gloss to both front and back covers. The page quality is outstanding--off-white to white, and the book is extremely firm yet supple. The book lies perfectly flat and the corners and edges are razor sharp.Well YEAH....they were TRIMMED!

The right and bottom edge of the book appear to be slightly trimmed. This appears to have been done very neatly and professionally and it was only determined under careful inspection.Obviously from studying the scans.... There is a couple of very small paint flakes at the right edge where it was trimmed. There appears to be one drop of color touch on a 1/8" hairline in the black at mid-spine. There are no added pieces, no tear seals, no cleaning or pressing. This book is remarkably preserved. The consignee must have written this tripe for you guys, right?

Everything about this book is superb! With no conservation this book in this condition would sell for $30K+ easily.

This book is so solid and so well-preserved, I hate to say good-bye to this one.Hard to do since you never said HELLO to it. It's still in Detroit, right? I must be weak with stupidity to let this one go.Weak with stupidity. Is that English?

Again, you bidders determine the value. This is a NO RESERVE auction.

Don't be timid, this book is worth every penny of whatever the sale price turns out to be. Don't you just get all warm and gushy when sellers pull that krapp out of their hat?The sky is the limit on this one. Winning bidder takes home a once in a lifetime treasure. Happy bidding and GOOD LUCK!! And good riddance!

hmmm, selling a book you don't have in hand using scans given to you by the consignee? i don't like that very much.

Actually, I'd opine that's basically the Business model at Comiclink and Pedigree.

in each of these instances, you CAN post your own scans and these sites won't actually see the real books until the sale has been made.

However, they are then in a position to NIX the deal after receiving them, if the book isn't what the seller said or scanned. So there is a Failsafe........... :sumo:

Hopefully, Gus will get the book before sending it to the buyer. If not, then Silverage is playing with fire..............

Kudos to Nik, Red and Kenny for setting the record straight, here...........The GEEK SQUAD lives and thrives..................

I agree with you Harry, and while I am sure Gus is not the first person to write up a flowery sales pitch to try and hype up a consignment book. I think he pushed the envelope more then a little on this listing to the point of misrepresentation, even if he has dealt with and trusts the consignor to provide the item as listed.

I am not here to champion Gus, nor roast him, I don't know enough facts to do either. I just think he seriously needs to rethink not only what books he takes on as consignments, but also how he represents them under "his" Ebay ID name. Even if it is just peoples perception of what they think they are seeing, it can only hurt his reputation if it comes back that he sold a book that was not as advertised even if he said he will offer a full refund, and told him as much in our conversation.
