A rainy...I mean really, really rainy Monday. (tsk) Days like these I'm glad I live on a hill...

Thought I'd get some scans in for 1964.

Here's some favorites fresh from my archive. :insane:

FEBRUARY 1964 - MGA No. 85

The final and the only 1964 issue of "My Greatest Adventure" Featuring the DOOM PATROL.

MGA85fc.jpg

MARCH 1964 - Doom Patrol No. 86 (#1)

Upon the cancelation of MGA, DC launches the DOOM PATROL in their own mag. The numbering continued from the MGA issues. Thus No. 1 is actually DOOM PATROL No. 86.

Begin the 18 issue run with 4 issues for 1964.

Here's something fun...among my favorite ads from 1964.

How many of you guys built these? I have them all. Mint in boxes and built-up.

Comics and Aurora model kits of monsters and super heroes went hand in hand.

Anyone here inter that contest back in '64? I was only 2 then. I do have the Famous Monsters of Filmaland magazine that featured the contest winners.

I still have my childhood 1967 to 1970 line art box version to Superman among several 1964 to 1966 issues. The first Aurora kit I ever built.

Well that's a start for me.

YASSIR!

Great series. "Underappreciated" gets tossed around a lot, but I think it applies here.

Not hard to find a mid-grade run for modest money, even the MGA issues.

That particular cover cracks me up -- it's not your BANDAGES that are radioactive, Negative Man, it's your body underneath, right? The bandages are shielding (or so the story goes).

AUGUST 1964 - Doom Patrol No. 89

DoomPatrol89fc.jpg

One of my favorite covers of the series. Classic DC "split" villain, bright yellow background.

Well that's a start for me.

That's a helluva start. Nice stuff.

Those Showcases are wonderful!

A couple of issues of Aquaman -- reasonably nice readers, typical of my accumulation.

Aquaman 17, Sept-Oct 1964. Nice black cover featuring Mera, one of DC's hottest Silver Age females, thanks to Nick Cardy.

Aquaman 18, Nov-Dec 1964. A real wham-bam-thank-you-ma'm courtship! Aquaman proposes to Mera on page 24 and they're married in a single panel (essentially the cover) on page 25. Can you imagine Silver Age Marvel doing that?

Also interesting to see who doesn't need breathing equipment. Wonder Woman's powers were always vaguely defined, but essentially became "anything Superman can do" at this time.
