Popular Post ChiSoxFan
Headed to me now, I dropped these off at Heroes-Con to be brought back to Florida. The Uncanny Avengers variant I had conservatively graded at a 9.4 in attempts to sell it raw here -- happy to see that I wasn't being generous. The What If? I thought definitely was a 9.8, so seeing it come back as that was a confidence-booster for what I plan to send in to them in the future. Danger Haggis
Just got these back from the Comic Con I went to in May. The Cap is my daughter’s - sketch by a local guy and signed by Cobie Smulders. Mine is the Spider-Boy with a head sketch by Chris Campana. Still waiting on a few more to come back. greggy, ADAMANTIUM and grendelbo 2
Danger Haggis
@ChiSoxFan That’s awesome! I’ve got a What If 105 signed by Ron Frenz and Tom DeFalco that’s on my short list of needing to submit. ChiSoxFan and ADAMANTIUM
Danger Haggis
@Stefan_W Were those strictly cracks & resubmits, or did you have them pressed as well? That's crazy you got that many bump ups. Makes me curious about a couple of mine...

That's crazy you got that many bump ups. Makes me curious about a couple of mine... I press my own books. The last ones I posted were all crack and resubs. For perspective, I am pretty selective about which books I buy to crack and resub which helps keep my success rate pretty high.
Danger Haggis
Do you press other people's books (for a fee, of course)? Also, any idea how to get marker off of a cover?

I dont believe you can get marker off of a cover. Some processes can probably make it more faint but I dont muck with stuff like that. I do press books for local friends, but I do not do it for people who have to ship books to me. This is mostly because there is a high demand and I would never have time to press my own books if I expanded, but also because a part of what I offer is a quick screen before and after pressing to make sure the person knows what is likely to happen if they send a book in. For example, I had a friend give me a small group of books that he figured were 9.8s and when I showed him the flaws under lights, and went through what a press can and cannot fix, he pulled half of them back and decided to keep them as raws. That type of process really doesnt work well when shipping books back and forth. Plus I am in Canada which adds a significant wrinkle for people who are in the USA. Danger Haggis
Understood. It was a long shot, but thought I'd ask. I'm in Ontario a few times a year - live just across the border in Michigan. Stefan_W

Popular Post ChiSoxFan
Just got the grades back on more books that I dropped off at Heroes-Con. Can't wait to see them in person. I thought I had them graded accurately when they were raw, but it's nice to see them come back in a best-case scenario. The Planet I'd offered here as a raw 6.5 (which I had bought from a boardie here years back as such, and they're a very accurate/tight grader), and I was pleasantly surprised at how that one turned out (and I'm glad now that no one picked it up when I offered it before, lol). Popular Post Stefan_W
This was a super interesting one, at least to me. I had a request to do a video of a crack and resub start to finish, and so I selected this Hulk 181 for it. It started out at a 7.0 with moderate creasing on the top back. Since the creasing was on white I figured I could smooth it out pretty well. When I worked on the book I found that the creasing came out better than I had hoped, and when I submitted it I figured it was an 8.5 all day. To my surprise it landed on 8.0, which seemed on the harsh side. It arrived today and when I looked at the book through the case some of the creasing on the back had unpressed along the way, and there are very faint creases where the deeper ones once were. Based on this the grade given is absolutely correct, and I have to decide whether to just accept it and move on or crack it again and try to get the last bit of meat off of the bone.
