HUGE Comic Lot Auctions?

13 posts in this topic

Take an auction such as this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Old-9-362-Underground-Comix-Comic-Collection-Lot-Zap_W0QQitemZ120227086887QQihZ002QQcategoryZ3979QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

How does one spend $9,000 on such a lot? I know very little about the comics shown. Are they valuable? noteworthy? ....I think someone just spent $9,000 on bird cage liner and toilet paper.

They've been listing this auction for many weeks.

At least Ross came on here one day and defended what they are trying to do with these auctions, or at at least tried to.

Reserve won't be met on this again as their average price per issue reserve is too high for what people expect to pay wholesale.

Can anyone enlighten me on the significance of these books?

There is a lot of historic UG comics here, they seem to be in decent shape as well! I would like to hear our resident UG authority 50cent weigh in on this auction!

$1 an issue, which is where the auction was at last look, is just a no lose proposition for Undegrounds. I would think the reserve is closer to $25k on this lot.

The deal with neatstuff is you are supposed to call, and he will offer you a much better price offline than if he allowed the ebay auction to run its course. The guy is completely legit, and he has a huge warehouse in Jersey that you could pick the lot up in person.

I would say he is easily the biggest bulk comic dealer on ebay, and that as much feedback as he has, most of his big deals are offline, with the ebay auctions being nothing more than teaser ads.

We have spent aprox $40,000 with Ross due to (not on) these auctions.

It's basically an advert to get you to call him to work out a price.

Ebay fees on lots like this would be killer.

Our 1st lot from Ross 100,000 comics was ok and is making money, our 2nd lot was superb and is doing very well Thank You.

We'll be back for more soon.
