Marvel to bring 'Iron Man' to TV

Method, Cinnamon to co-produce toon series

LONDON -- Comicbook superhero "Iron Man" may be a thoroughly American creation, but that hasn't stopped Marvel Entertainment from partnering with European shingles to produce the latest "Iron Man" TV toon series.

Marvel has commissioned Gaul's Method Animation to make 26 half-hour "Iron Man" shows. Marvel and Method are co-producing with U.K. animation shingle Cinnamon Entertainment.

Series is in production, and the first episode is due to be delivered in a month. A DVD launch of selected episodes is skedded before TV release.

Cinnamon managing director Anthony Bouchier said his company's role in producing the series "is a tribute to the quality of animation talent working in the British Isles."

Cinnamon, which has contributed early design and modelling work, specializes in children's animation and is best known for BBC1's CG toon hit "Freefonix."

"Freefonix" follows the adventures of a pop group 50 years in the future in the city of Los Bosmos.

"Freefonix" was created by Magnus Fiennes, brother of actors Ralph and Joseph, and launches to the international market at Mip TV in Cannes next week.

French org Method Films turned heads with CG series "Skyland," which aired on Nickelodeon in the U.S. and on ITV in the U.K.

The latest "Iron Man" TV series will follow the release of the live-action "Iron Man" feature.

Pic, which stars Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role and Samuel L. Jackson as Marvel superhero Nick Fury, opens May 2 Stateside and in the U.K.

Other co-producers of the "Iron Man" TV series are Indian animation house DQ Animation, lead broadcaster France 2 and specialist compositing house Lux Animation (Luxembourg).

You're just drawn that way?
I just prefer it and think comics as a medium are more suited to animation than live action. Sometimes it seems like they're trying to shove a square peg into a round hole with some of these live action movies...Ghost Rider and the FF movies come immediately to mind. Spend 1/2 that budget on a quality animated flick....that I could get excited about.

What the heck is an animation shingle?

A 'shingle' is just American media trade speak for a 'company' and most commonly applied to Independent media copmpanys, start-ups with fast growth or collaborations.

In the UK it would have said animation production company.

Bet it won't be as good as this!

:roflmao: God, that was so bad. Wasn't there also an FF cartoon in the same mold. Basically a bunch of static drawings.

Not exactly. There was Thor, Submariner, Hulk and Captain America in this mold. They were produced by Grantray-Lawrence Animation, the same company that did the '66 Spiderman series.

The FF cartoon was produced by Hanna Barbera, and thus has animation similar to Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, The Herculoids, etc. I think Toth did the character design for that one.
