Branget and Comicalgems are arguing discussing in the Preacher - AMC thread about the price of WD #1 before the show was announced, with the context that WD has caused collectors to rush to buy #1s after a show is announced in case it is the next WD. Branget says he couldnt give one away at $250, but CG recalls buying one for $700. According to Wikipedia, on January 20, 2010, AMC officially announced that it had ordered a pilot. So lets look at sales around that time, from GPA:

I posted about this in the WD bubble thread a little while back:

It was announced that AMC had acquired the rights to WD in August of 2009 - at that time a WD #1 in 9.8 was a $400-450 book.

The show premiered on October 31st, 2010 - throughout most of 2010 (including after the show premiere), a WD #1 in 9.8 was a $500-600 book with a single outlier sale of $875 on December 4th (immediately followed by three $450-500 sales the following week).

Sales prices remained stuck in the $500-600 range throughout most of 2011 until the premiere of the 2nd season which kicked off the nosebleed price jump.

It's amazing that so many people keep on trying to push the myth that WD #1s exploded after the TV show got announced (or after the 1st episode aired) - it just didn't happen that way.

+1

It amazes me when people pay nose bleed prices for books after movie announcements. It's just crazy. Why rush and "buy in" at high prices?

Do they want to be "1st to market" when the show/movie happens? The reality is the seller they bought from was the real "1st to market." lol

The people who owned a Walking Dead #1 at the beginning of the show are NOT the only people who made money. Once a real pattern of growth was established like Mike said with season 2, people were able to join in and find raw copies to get slabbed and flip. There is no reason to believe that will be any different for Preacher #1.

I was thinking the same thing, but for some reason I have a hard time imagining Invincible getting picked up as a movie. I've been reading the title since number one, but ... I don't know. I hate to say it, but it might be too generic.

No, I take that back. I feel the book has been coasting for a while. But that first arc, where Omniman "turns" evil, would make an awesome movie.

I'll put my Invincible comments in spoilers since this is the WD thread:

Generic?!? Ouch..

I think it's the perfect teen superhero book. Sure, he's a lot like Spider-Man in that he's a teenager with problems and he struggles with how to be a hero. But any teen superhero book is going to have to copy that formula.

But I think Invincible balances big events, big fights with big teen issues. Like his roommate being gay, and Atom Eve's pregnancy. Think about it, they did a story about Atom Eve having an abortion. There is no way Marvel would have Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy have an abortion. That took some stones to put that in to an independent comic. But it's a more realistic issue to teenage readers.

Okay my memory must be failing me. I went back through all my paypal transactions with Branget and the earliest was in 2010 but the amount was only $200. Guessing it was a raw WD 1. Another one I found was for $900 in 2012, guessing it was for a WD 1 slab.

Just goes to show the memory plays tricks I suppose.

if he's good enough to have his name on the front cover, you should have him sign your book

For someone who feels the need to bring up how much he loathes SS books at any given opportunity, you sure like to tell people how they should do theirs

Does anyone feel that Tony Moore shouldn't be bothered with signing any books after #24?

I just feel like I'm bothering him asking him to sign or sketch anything WD related. He's done with it.

I've thought about this for a long time. If I did ask him, all I would be thinking about is him thinking about just the money and his heart wouldn't be into it as much.

Just my 2c

I mean I'm not a SS chaser anyways. But anything new WD related, I wouldn't want TM sig on it. Leave the guy alone, imo.

Anyone remotely feel this way?

If I were to get a commission by TM, it would have to be TWD. I don't care how tired he is with it. lol

I posted 4 photos (each of a different sketch card) on instagram. They were a zombie, Rick, Deadpool, and Venom he did at various functions. All four in a row and all tagging him. He only liked the Deadpool and Venom. I found that to be kind of interesting.

why is the knife behind his head?

I thought that too when I first looked at it but

it's not, he's stabbed him through the neck

Sounds right. Middle and then pull forward.

In fact I think it's just middle and then remove - in and then out the same way, if you like. That would do more then enough damage.

I am aware of how the above might look to people who don't know what this is about.
