OT - Great quotes that have meaning to you...

152 posts in this topic

old nerf here again with another post to break the monotony here...

I have seen a few quotes on here that have had good meaning behind them

One of them was the "nothing taste better than thin" (I think Nik or Dice wrote that)

But I heard an awesome statement today that I thought I would share.

I was in the copy room of my office crushed with deadlines and the fact that

no one really respects what I do when I suffer for my projects. I talked to a good

friend that that is a cool southern black girl and she said that life is silly that way and it reminds

me of something my momma used to say:

"you shouldn't worry and carry on so much...

because honestly, nobody really gives a damn"

:applause:

Another great one that I heard from an associate many years ago:

"Somedays you're the hero, Somedays you are the goat -

that's just the way it is kid, don't take it personal"

I can't remember how many times I thought about that after getting

blazed up over some mishap.

Words of wisdom that have generally got stuck in my head over the years...

"Conceit is God's gift to the little man" (G.B. Shaw)

"Democracy is the worst form of government there is, except for all the others" (Churchill)

"Work is the curse of the drinking classes" (Wilde)

"Don't let the bast@rds grind you down" (bloke down the pub)

"A man makes plans and god laughs"

Ancient Jewish proverb.

That is a classic - I'd forgotten that one even though it was on a boardies' sig line at one point.

Reminds me of the quote from Brecht (another favorite)

"The man who laughs has not yet heard the bad news"

Sounds a little like something my old battalion commander used to say, "The enemy always has a vote."

And what I currently have up on my board is quote of his he used to tell us all the time, "Take a stand, do the right thing every day, without fear, without hesitation."

I actually hate the saying "Don't sweat the small stuff!"

I always answer back "I sweat the small stuff because it's the big stuff I have no control over!" :sumo:
