1st S.A. Penguin?

6 posts in this topic

1956 is the initial year seperating GA from SA. It was published in March of '56 but do we know what month it actually hit newsstands? I know some of the Marvel books' pubishing dates don't actually reflect the real time they were on newsstands. If this came out even a month or two earlier than listed perhaps, OS opted to label it as GA based on this?

Only a newb's thoughts.

How is Batman #155 (1963) the 1st silver age Penguin if he appeared in Batman #98 (1956). Isn't a book from 1956 a silver age book? It's certainly not from the golden age?

...only if it was printed in September of 1956 or later...the publication date of Showcase 4, which ushered in the Silver Age of comics.

Batman #98 would therefore be the 1st "Atom Age" Penguin (shrug)

(doesn't sound very sexy, does it :gossip: )

...I think it was #99 not #98,...and it was always listed as the last "Golden Age Penguin",...if you want to be technical and count the "Silver Age" as starting with Showcase #4 then it would be Sept 1956,...and Batman #102 was on the newsstand at that date,...although Overtreet lists Batman #103 as the first Silver Batman book,... (shrug)

So Detective 225 would be the start of the Silver Age?
