Top 10 group shot...

OK, here's my go at a Top 10 shot. (The camera is being awfully generous to some of these...not that I'm complaining!) :)

I agree about the Dynamic being the toughest book of the lot. It's pretty scarce.

Here's a scan of the Master 27:

master 25 and 27 are on my "short" list

How can a "short list" have a 1000 comics on it. :baiting:

hm good point...

(And because, er, because you demanded it!, the commentary--)

All of these books are from 1938-1940. So many great WWII books and atomic age books too, but this period is really the sweet spot for me. A great period of excitement and experimentation, with so much cool stuff being tried out and no one quite knowing what was going to stick.

I'm a huge fan of the early Siegel and Shuster Superman work. Something so raw and primitive about those early stories.

Tec 39 is a way underappreciated issue (and heck, given that it's a "post-Robin" Tec I know it always will be!). But the Batman tale rocks...they take on an "Chinese Hatchet Gang" that has a habit of burying hatchets in their enemies' heads. A nasty early story that feels more like a pre-Robin story. Plus it has a lovely colorful cover showing Batman knocking a thug off a building. You gotta love it.

I'm crazy for the early Fox stuff, obviously. I like so many of the Weird Comics and Science Comics issues, it's almost impossible to pick just one of each. Two of my very favorite titles of any company (still trying my best to complete the Weird run).

And in closing, a shout out to Collin (comicdey) for the Supe #2...still much appreciated...and to october for the Tec #21.

Thanks again guys. (thumbs u

Great books Jon! I particularly like the Superman 2 and 3 and the Action 19 :cloud9:

This group features books from 8 different publishers...I guess my taste in comics (like my troubled golf game) is wide and varied! lol

This was fun! I purchased these in the past two years, when I started collecting again.

That Impact 1 has one of my favorite stories ever in it - "Master Race", which is just great.

Thanks for the comments. "Master Race" is one of my favorites as well. Based on another boardie's recommendations, I purchased an edition of Squa Tront (6 or 7, I think, from ebay) where Art Spiegelman analyzes "Master Race" from an artist's perspective. I found that great. When I collected 25 years ago, I had not even heard of EC comics. My LCS introduced them to me when I re-entered the hobby, and I am of course a big fan.

Almost anyone interested in the art of comic story telling would benefit from reading that essay.

Nice Top 10s, everyone. It's encouraging to see such a variety of books being included.

This is a great thread!

(worship) Although, I don't think King Richard should be allowed to participate anymore.

I like all of the photograph shots better, but it was easier for me to throw together the thunbnails.

This is my contribution. A litlle of the same, a little different.
