My most harrowing day at the Post Office mailing a comic ever!

87 posts in this topic

So I'm standing in line at the Post Office since I have a comic to mail to Canada and need to do it in person, and this four to five year old kid with his mom is spinning around making all kinds of noises two places in line ahead of me. Then he decides to kick the older lady standing right in front of me in the shins, almost knocking her over. The mother was all sorry and said her child was autistic. I guess that makes it OK... Anyhoot the older lady was distraught and left. I could see the mark on her leg that would be a bruise later.

The mother seemed upset and suggested more people should contribute to the some autistism fund or something. (shrug) Now it was my turn to be close to them. The line was slow moving since one of the three people working the desks was out sick today, but I was prepared. I dodged, circled, and even held Lawrence's priority envelope over my head to keep the comic safe from the little terrorist.

I guess you guys are waiting for the punchline...

When she got up to the desk to pick up a package she gave them the little orange slip and they informed her she was at the wrong Post Office.

What are your excellent adventures mailing comics like!?

Today my visit to the PO was harrowing. All three counter folks were free to help me when I walked in but the pen on the counter was empty so they had to offer me one of theirs. Wheeeww a crisis was averted!

interesting story.

My post office stories aren't exciting. I only sometimes get annoyed when some people go to the post office in my neighbourhood (read- Chinese people) and they bring the items they want to ship, but they're not even packaged. They attempt to buy the packaging, package their items and mail it off all right there and then. This means for me, that I have to wait a ridiculous amount of time to mail something that should take me less than 5 minutes to do.

One day I'm standing in line and notice the woman in front of me is wearing a shirt that still has the store price tag hanging out from the bck of her neck. I'm standing there debating whether I should say something, she steps up to the counter and the clerk says "Excuse me ma'am, you still have the store sticker(long clear size label) on the front of your shirt." Now I think that's kind of odd she missed both store attachments. Then the waoman replies "Oh, I don't take the tags/stickers off the clothes I buy, I just leave them on, wear the clothes for a day or two, and then return them for a refund."

The clerk was speechless, I was trying to contain an outburst of laughter which didn't help her at all as she could see me out of the corner of her eye. The transaction was completed, I approached the counter, and all we could do was just shake our heads.

Ditto and they don't have tape, a pen, a box or a clue.

I wonder if the Post Offices in China are so helpful and would

make people like you and I wait in line while they struggle

along wasting the Postie's time no matter how long the line-up

is. :frustrated:

Nothing harrowing, but last summer, when I was mailing off some comics I had sold on Ebay, the lady working that day told me that her Ebay account had recently had restrictions put on it. When she called and asked why she was told for suspected shill bidding. She asked her son about it as she knew she wasn't selling anything. He was bidding on his own items to drive up the price.

I go to the Post Office 5 days a week and it never fails to stress me out. Sigh.... I've been a Letter Carrier since I got out of high school 29 years ago. For the record I always try to deliver the 'do not bends' unbent. Please people put lots of cardboard in that package, even if I treat it like an Action #1 mail can get bend when I hand off my relay bags full of mail to the truck driver.

My claim to shame? Had a package, thought it was a book, it was a eighth of an inch too big for the mailbox, finally got it in with a little bending. Caught hell the next day, broke a little old ladie's indoor outdoor thermometer. Mercury all over her mailbox.

Shame on you cramming that thermometer into that little old lady's box. (tsk)
