Who's owned your CGC book?

62 posts in this topic

After reading and vaguely partcipating in the pressing/restoration threads something occured to me that might be an interesting idea for a future CGC innovation, now bear with me before slamming the idea...

You have a slabbed book, encased in plastic, labelled on the front with important info regarding the book, why not on the rear of the book also have important info?

What I'm talking about is this - an adesive label similar to on the inside of a library book on the back of a slab, detailing who the original owner/person who slabbed it was and who they sold the book to, next seller carries on the info to the next buyer, wouldn't it be cool to in years to come to know that a big collector, celeb or even a relative owned the slab?

Not only that, but if available other first ownership info could detail who any restoration work on the book was carried out by, especially for those big money books where to some people it matters that it was done by a known professional, ..... thoughts? ( Yes I know it's insanity)

Not to slam your idea but one of my biggest pet peeves are those adhesive labels that Metropolis/ComicLink/PCE etc.,etc.,etc. place on the holders. You need a blowtorch and a jack hammer to get the darn things off, and they are an eyesore!

To keep track of ownership on some books you would need a sticker big enough to cover the whole back cover!

Hey Matmarvel! You see that X-Men 26 9.2 in your registry? That was the second slab I ever owned

I bought it off ebay. Don't remember who from.

Is that to agree or disagree with the discussion?

Ditto. I hate those damn stickers :censored:

and as for ownerships goes, there are a few books that were passed 4/5 times here on the boards from forumite to forumite.

I have a hard time keeping track where I bought the book let alone who I sold them to.

The seller would fill in the info as to who he sold it to, on it carries on from there. As far as the sticker idea goes a certificate could be included inside the bag that protects a slab?

When I sell a book as far as I am concerned, its sold and could care less who bought it. I hate filling out paperwork when I submit to CGC, let alone fill out more paperwork when I sell a book.

Oh I quite agree that it's interesting to know where a comic has been. 'Provenance' they call it :)

That's the main reason pedigrees are so much fun.

I think it's a good idea to document your book's history as much as is possible (talking about big books here, not every copy of X-Men 200!).

I think your idea has some merit. 'Provenance' is important in many other collectables and your idea simply extends the concept of pedigree collections. One big problem for me, the sticker would obscure back covers, some of which are actually wrap around covers, and back cover ads, which I have always loved, especially the GA era.

I think the idea is worth considering.

:hi: Hiyo!

:o ... Wow! Actually love that ideal and have been thinking about that since I've heard of CGC and pedigees and stuff!

hm It actually make sense for the CGC rated books to at least have on the slabbed title books... a tag of the original owner. Even if bought on Ebay and/or online auction sites that deal exclusively or not in selling CGC rated books. Not only does help them keep an (supposively) accurate account of books rated in the census, but you get to see how much your book really got around before actually getting to you.

(tsk) One thing that always got to me is buying up already slabbed books doesnt make you the original owner, because there was an actually original owner, even though its not you. I for one hand... dont buy CGC rated books, but try and find all my books raw and in the best condition i could find... to be the only true original owner of my collection besides the store or secret/private stores I got them at.

:wishluck: Lets start a petition drive!
