I wanted to say before everyone says "it's an IDW book, it's to be expected..."

I agree, IDW makes some pretty minty books. But, not all the time. Locke & Key: Head Games #3 and it's variant(my new 10) are the worst constructed books in the series for a possible mint grade. Most of these #3's(if not all) have spinal flaking, like in the Spider-Man #1 Platinum Variants or Stumptown #1 books, which will keep the grading at 9.8 or below.

...making getting a 9.9 lucky. Let alone a CGC 10, which would be a miracle. I have bought around 15+ raws of the regular #3 alone and still cannot find a mint one. When this variant finally came up for auction, I snagged it knowing there might never be another.

I think the gray tinted background will be known as the notoriously "lost" issue and will be more desired down the road for Locke & Key completists. It did afterall, require a "new" first-printing of blue tinted background issues to meet the demand.

 

I declare this will be our Walking Dead #1 b/w "Mature Readers"-like warning unofficial variant controversy for our set :grin: .

 

They will be known as the blue and the gray.
