Popular Post jgabany
I just upgraded my CGC 4.0 copy of ASM #1 to CGC 5.0! The front cover has Marvel chipping around the edges and the rear cover has a December 11, 1963 date stamp near the top right corner. Regardless, I'm quite enthusiastic to own this! Math Teacher
I know I'm late to this party, but here's a picture of my copy of Amazing Spider-Man #1. Yes, I know my picture taking skills are quite lacking. Joe KirbyJack, JohnH19 and Bomber-Bob

billbrown7080
Hey Just hoping somebody with a little more Knowledge of The Business side of comics could help me out here... I ran across something, and I cant quite figure out the endgame here... so I found this ASM #1 selling on Ebay ---https://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-Amazing-SPIDER-MAN-1-Marvel-Comics-est-2-5-GD-1st-ORIGIN-CHAMELEON/202578186321?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3De51a8f574e144bbd8be593a68a1eff0d%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D162404346574%26itm%3D202578186321&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 ....as soon as I saw it I recognized it....I was looking through Heritage the other day, I saw this ASM #1 sold just 3 months--https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/the-amazing-spider-man-1-marvel-1963-condition-fr/a/121840-11220.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 Obviously its the same exact book. So I'm assuming, someone bought this book with the attentions of Flipping it...because It makes no sense to buy it and sell it within 3 months if it was personal.. but what I dont understand is why the person bought it at all as an Investment? It sold on Heritage for $4500.00 and was graded as FAIR... yet Now The Seller has it listed as a 2.5 on EBay... So its clear The buyer is intentionally lying about the grade to try and get more money. do you think this was the plan all along...the buyer bought the book from heritage with the intentions of Lying about the grade to try flip it? But, I don't know if you can consider it lying about the grade. the 2.0 was what Heritage graded it as. Once someone buys it, if they decide to sell it, when its raw, they can sell it and sell it with what "they" think the grade is. It is up to an informed buyer to estimate what they think the grade is (ESPECIALLY when spending that kind of money). At such a low grade, a half a grade can really be opinion too. Maybe the guy pressed it? Or cleaned it in some way? Who knows, but based on the two links, I dont think there is enough to say the person is lying. This is the exact reason CGC and reputable grading companies exist.

I think their auction description was screwed up: "The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (Marvel, 1963) Condition: FR. Spider-Man's origin is retold. First Fantastic Four crossover. First appearances of John Jameson, J. Jonah Jameson, and the Chameleon. Steve Ditko cover and art. Currently ranks #7 on Overstreet's list of Top 50 Silver Age Comics. Overstreet 2018 GD 2.0 value = $2,400. "

They list the book's grade at the start, in this case fair or 1.0, and near the end they list the Overstreet value for the nearest increment(s). You can see the comp books listed all say "FR 1.0." At the end it says GD 2.0 value is $2,400. I can see how that can be confusing. Could have confused the person who purchased it. Who knows. Suffice to say, the business of selling raw books and estimating the grade is a huge gray area. Ebay is full of it and its a tough area to play as a buyer and seller. I try to avoid it as both. Ive never sold a raw book and I've bought some, been burned a few times by it. Bought one that had restoration that wasn't in the listing. But, I have no way to know if the person selling knew it did. In this case, do we even know its the same person? The person who bought the Heritage auction could have immediately taking it and sold it to a shop, then the shop put it up on ebay. Not saying thats the case, but there could be other scenarios too. Popular Post tbshay
Hi Fellow ASM #1 owners! Here's my copy which I'll be having graded soon. Has a 'B-' written on the first page but a solid book. i wonder what this meant to whoever wrote it? Perhaps they were grading the story. Pretty weak compared to AF 15. Luckily it gathers steam quickly after that!! conan09279, spracknetch23, MR SigS and 3 others

MetaHuman
Here are my 2 entries. I bought the PLOD one raw when I was a student and was not happy when it came back as a PLOD. There was glue on the spine. That spurred me to upgrade and get the 2.0 graded blue label one. I'm considering submitting and having CGC remove the glue on the spine of the PLOD copy so maybe I'll get a blue label after all!
