We all know how reclusive Steve Ditko is.But on a scale of 1 to 10 how rare is his auto?

I think he drives a Volkswagen, not too rare IMO... hm

Ditko's not reclusive. (shrug) He works in Manhattan just like millions of other dorks.

Do you know how hard it is carrying a tin cup around all day?

Steve Ditko is either incredibly rich from his prior art career, or perhaps just has real disdain for the fans to avoid the con circuit.

Maybe he just works under an alias to support himself these days. (shrug)

No matter what the case I hope some one is documenting it so I can read about it later because I'm sure it will be interesting.

Jonathan Ross doorstepped Ditko at his office in central Manhattan for a BBC documentary not too long ago. Apparently Ditko was happy to talk to Ross (and give him loads of copies of his more recent self-published work) provided there were no cameras.

I think Ditko is over rated, much like Starbucks.

I agree to a certain extent - he was an original, but if not for Spidey he'd be an also ran. Ross's documentary probably only got the green light because of Ditko's dated oddball politics and the schism over creator rights to ASM with Stan Lee.

People should just leave the guy alone. He owes nobody anything and the constant pursuit of him by fans says less of them than Ditko.

He doesn't care about comics, or his place in it, and people should just stand back and respect that...

I doubt Ditko is being constantly harrassed by fanboys...

Anyway no need for the indignation...I think we're all in agreement on that one.

I'm referring specifically on the Jonathan Ross special. There was no need for that...

And from all accounts he still gets visited by fanboys...

Maybe I'm old (well maybe, mature?)..but I'm not familiar with what context the term "auto" is being used here...

At any rate, Ditko was one of the pioneers of the Silver Age. His work on sci-fi/fantasy and super-hero books set the standards in the late 50s and early 60s. Personally, I am not interested in his politics or (unfortunately) any of his post-1965 work. I find his self-published stuff unreadable.

Its a shame he will not give interviews -- there are many fans who would like his insights to how comics were done in the 50s, his personal experiences, and his involvment in the creation of the Marvel publishing empire.
