My copy is the reprint as well, with the 4-engine plane. It will suffice.

 

If my scanner could handle the treasuries, I would post those too. But since it can't, I won't post them or the digest. Still, I'm happy having the full run.

May created Rudolph in 1939. Art was by Denver Gillen.

My copy has a picture of the Tri-motored plane which means it is a first edition.

Rudolph was created as a sales promotion for Montgomery Ward.

May's brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, adapted the story into a song and Gene Autry's recording of the song hit No. 1 on the Billboard pop singles chart the week of Christmas 1949. He really didn't become part of the Santa Claus legend until the song became a hit.
