XMAS 2

This book (Not this particular copy) was the very first Golden

Age comic I ever read. Got a copy while I was still in high school, circa 1970. A buddy found it in a garage somewhere in Battle Creek, sold it to me for a dollar. Pretty good introduction to the Golden Age, eh?

I traded it a couple years later for some early Fantastic Fours and X-Men, and imagine my surprise when I was thumbing through the 1976 Overstreet to see my old copy pictured on page 515.

Yep, the Xmas 2 photo in several early O’streets was my former copy. There were enough flaws in the cover that I recognized it immediately, lol

I picked up this copy from our very own Moondog a few years back at WW Chicago.

Must have been so cool receiving one of these books under the tree as a kid in the 1940s.

Only one Christmas giveaway comic today - but it may be the granddaddy of Christmas giveaway comics. A Merry Christmas From Sears Toyland from 1939. Oversized, die-cut, this puppy is tough in any condition.

Montezuma posted a peek at the inside of this comic earlier in the thread. Here are some more pics. You also get to read the heartwarming Richard Tracy strip in the comic, just full of holiday spirit.

Fantastic! Thanks for posting. Other than Annie these other characters have faded into pop culture obscurity (Tracy is barely holding on). Too bad as they were all amazing characters.

Here's a Grant department store giveaway starring Jo-Joy, the incredible colorful live jack-in-the-box. Move over, scary clown. This book came out only once a year, during Christmas. A short but memorable run from 1945 to 1953. Art by the Jason Comic Art Group, who supplied content for a number of other kid's giveaways and funny animal books.

Somehow I knew you'd be a Jo-Joy fan, Doc! Great copies!

Here are a couple more in the series.
