Where Does High Grade Start

265 posts in this topic

I know we've had threads like this before, but apparently I'm too inept to unearth them.

I'd like to know what everyone thinks is high grade.

1980-Current

1970-1979

1960-1969

1950-1959

1940-1949

Pre-1940

I was gonna start polls but I just had a tooth pulled and am in quite a bit of pain (blasted Tylenol hasn't kicked in yet) so am going to be lazy and just hope for answers.

anything VF or better for BA!

F/VF for SA!

at least when it comes to putting "high grade" in the title of an ebay listing!

depends on the book for GA given that there are numerous top census books at 6.0....

1980-Current 9.4-9.6

1974-1979 9.2-9.4

1970-1973 9.2

1966-1970 9.0-9.2

1960-1965 8.0

I agree. Comics didn't exist pre 1960.

:baiting:

The first time I heard someone call a GA book in 6.0 higher grade it shocked me...but I see it now.

High grade truly depends on the era...and some books you don't have a choice...you just take any grade you can get your hands on.

1950-1959 - that's a tough range as the first half is precode which are, I believe from my experiences, harder to find in HG (aside from warehouse finds). But in general I would say 8.0 would be HG, with a nod to 7.5 for some pre-codes.

1940-1949 - 7.5

Pre-1940 - again a hard range as it involves Platinum books. But for the mid 30's - 1939 I would think 7.0 would be the low end of HG.

Poor, Fair, Good = "low grade"

VG, Fine = "mid grade"

VF, NM, M = "high grade"

For me, anything VF or over is "high grade" no matter the era. That's my simple system, and because I'm simple, too, I'm stickin' to it! :insane:
