Megacon - The Flee-Marquette report - NOW WITH VIDEO!!!!!!!

216 posts in this topic

Okay I will add to this when I can. I am also putting together some video of forum members

and will post to Youtube later. :insane:

Friday Morning. Get up early to head out to the show and at the last second

thought I would check the website to see when the doors open. I thought it

started at 10 AM but it was 1 PM. Good thing I checked because that would

have been a long wait. So a couple of hours later I head down the road and

give Doc Watson a call and he says everyone is already in the show.

I soon arrived and had to park a mile away and then walked with a couple

hundred kids in various costumes carrying an assortment of weapons. I would

hate to be security at one of these shows, because after a point you just have to

trust that none of these guns/swords are real. I soon saw a middle-aged

man with a backpack and his want list in his hand, and walked beside him. Good,

I figured, there will at least be two of us in this show.

I see a Megacon booth with no one in line and ask if that was where you buy

tickets. She said regular tickets only, which was what I needed. With ticket in

hand, I went around the corner and encountered long lines and was about to stand

in one before I realized that they were waiting to pickup their advance tickets.

Evidently an advance ticket would allow you to get in early at 12PM instead of

1PM. I had no problem getting in early at 12:15 with my regular ticket whereas

advance ticket holders had to wait in line to well after 1PM to get their tickets so

they could get in early?

I thought Doc said they were hanging in the 100 row, so I head there first and did

not see them, but I did run into Jive and Gator and when I started to take a picture

they said Wait let us act like we are doing something. ;)

I call Doc again and find out they are at the 1100 row at the CFP (Central Florida Posse) booth.

It was great to meet Watson, arexcrooke, Cgcworld, Inhumanfiend for the first

time! MCMiles, KingofRulers, TupennyConan, Joeypost, Hoohah!, lookwhoitis

were also there.

I walked around briefly before heading out to lunch with Doc, Arex and Cgcworld.

We left the convention center and started walking north on International Drive

perusing the restaurants before we decide on the Redrock Canyon Grille. Being

that it was a gorgeous day we sat outside on the patio.

Our server Hannah was a redhead which did not go unnoticed and she put up

with our smart-alecky banter. I really enjoyed hanging with these guys and even

though I was the newbie they made me feel at ease immediately. Doc is as funny

in person as he is on the boards and he is really quite the southern gentleman.

Arex, cgcworld and I excused ourselves to go to the restroom when the check

came and a half an hour later Doc realized we weren't coming back and he was

going to have to pay. lol

Actually he picked up the tab. :applause:

Crazy Ed lived up to his namesake with his wall display. He usually has a double

booth and I can see where he may be concerned with theft, but this year he had a

single booth and the way it was set up only one person could fit in the booth with

him anyway, but I guess he still needed the signs. I thought I heard him say "Ed

will be with you in just a moment", but I could be mistaken.

Actually he is not that bad, but be prepared to spend quality time with him if he

gets going. I made the mistake one year of pulling out my want-list and he takes

it from me and starts pulling out comics and making a pile, like he knows what

condition I am looking for. meh

It was great meeting you, Jim.

Likewise! I hope our paths cross again soon. :wishluck:

It was kind of funny at lunch that there were 3 of us named Jim.

When Arex would say something like "So Jim, how long did it take

you to get here?", it would take us a second to figure out who he

was talking to.

Ed's booth was the only one I didn't browse at the NYC Con. I didn't want to get sucked into the vortex.

Ha, that is pretty funny. I'll have to start adding condition-modifiers to my want list in anticipation of meeting dealers like him. "Ed will be with you in just a moment"... heh.

And I agree with Nerf. More Tricia Helfer pics, please. We got one lousy one out of all the con reports. meh
