Worst gimmicky covers of the 1990's

BTW, I forgot to mention, this one wasn't just a card but it was a pink Barbie credit card that came with it. Good teaching lesson for the young girls.

Oh, so that is what The Resurrection tried to use to pay me for some books? I was wondering what was up with the pink credit card. :insane:

Didn't a couple of Avengers have all-"metal" covers, too?

Oh, and don't forget this...

At least it's better than the Hulk comic that they put out now!

I'm sure Ric Jones was crying too, when he found out his soon-to-be-bride was in the porn film they watched at the stag party.

...and someone needs to post a Wolverine 50

Figured it would have been done by now, but here's the gruesome cover in question.

I have a copy of that issue

So do I.

Peter Parker, Spectacular Spider-man 195. Shrink wrapped with a tape and a magazine, apparently 'Dirt Bag' magazine. I seem to think that 'Whatcha Want' by the Beastie Boys was included on that tape; Yes, I had this version and I opened it: huge fan of the DeMatteis/Bucsema run on PPSS.

Written by J.M. DeMatteis, Pencils by Sal Buscema.

This issue was part of a 3 issues series-in-a-series, which made up part 3 of the Kravens Last Hunt/Child Within/Death of Vermin saga.

Which was the first full foil cover? I remember the Lady Death and the Avengers but there were plenty of others. These were down right horrible.

Yeah, but think of the effect it would have on pressing if all covers were like this!

I don't know if it is fair to add Wolverine 50 to the list of Worst Gimmicky Covers. I actually enjoyed this issue, and the cover design to go along with the story, IMHO.

True and as far as the die cast covers go, it was the best one. But the hype behind it and the number of issues printed as well as the typical sellout for a quick buck - it does represent the era. And what were they asking $3.95 for it or something like that?

But a cool issue by itself.

$2.50 - you can see it on the pics above... :baiting:

Don't get me wrong - that was the 2nd highest price for a mainstream book at the time. Dang Venom #1 with the red holo-foil cover was $2.95, and is what I blame for starting the entire "special cover craze."
