I thought Legends of the Dark Night #1 was before Spider-man #1, but I could be wrong.

It was. (thumbs u Published in late '89.

I forgot about that one... this discussion and the "Celebrate the FOIL covers" topic

are making me want to compile the list with dates and then make a graphic timeline.

Yeah, but this one would be a LOT of work... on a weekend?!?

Then again, my wife is planning to clean the house so I should probably

stay out of her way in my office or something.

What about the gold second prints of some of the Marvel comics?

Off the top of my head, there were:

New Mutants #87

Fantastic Four #348

X-Men #282

X-Factor #71

X-Force #71

Ghost Rider #15

New Mutants 95, too, with that X-Tinction Agenda cover. UGH!

I have been really surprised that these haven't taken off in value. Granted, they are second prints, but you've gotta know that the print runs are lower than the regular issue. If I remember correctly, my LCS said that they received these more often than not when they would increase an order on a book but the distributor didn't have enough to meet the increase. This was in addition to the re-orders where the second prints came into play more often.

Kinda like the first variants!

Sometimes you will see an incredible price paid for a New Mutants 87 Gold, but I always credited this to folks thinking that was a "retailer only" edition.

But you are right, I think the print runs were much lower than the regular issues.
