Noble Nostalgia aka Nikelspot
Yeah, I was fortunate enough to grab it. The seller was very nice and a stand up guy. He didn't tell me, but I have a feeling that someone contacted him after I bought the book and told him that it is worth considerably more than the selling price. When he sent me the tracking # he told me that I should make a nice profit on it. He didn't seem vindictive and he honored the sell with great service. It was either that he wanted to move the book fast or someone contacted him. As far as selling the books goes, I am going to decide this week. As far as the book itself goes, if it wasn't for the chip missing at the top this book would have been higher. At least 7.0, But I would not rule out 8.0. Great Colors and Structure. I will have some more pics soon. The pics in the original listing do not do this book justice. I took this one on my iphone yesterday after I received it in the mail. Congrats! Green Lanterns says "Welcome to the the club." Right on! Thank you, sir. Maybe one day I can have a stash like yours

Hepcat
But the same holds true about SC 22. I always thought it was a top 5 DC Silver age book. But I guess it took everyone else 50 years to figure that out. I think most semi-knowledgeable collectors have always had it as a SA DC Top 5 book. But that didn`t translate into a high value, since being top 5 SA DC in comic collecting circles is kind of like being in the top 5 at Cal Tech... in football. But weren't you just chastising somebody else about things not always being about the money? If the philistines don't appreciate Green Lantern, well screw them. And their mothers probably throw rocks at airplanes too.

That does look very nice other than the crease and chip there. Keep it for a while, the market should tell you whether it's destined to go up more soon, or to level off. It is the opposite with GA where the DC keys rule the roost. Both companies had their "strong" periods that we can all appreciate.

It enables me to pick up Silver Age DCs more cheaply even though overall they're much less plentiful than Marvels.

Flash105
Here's a question for you. Let's say there are 1000 copies of SC 22 for illustration sake. How many are in collectors hands? How many are in dealers hands? How many are for sale at the right price? How many are not for sale at any price? How much does the book have to escalate in value to get more to shake free? It seemed like when AF15 went on a run that there was 7.5-8.5 for sale all the time. Now prices have stablized and they went back in hiding. Has the same happened to SC22? Is that the reason you don't see SC4 come up that often 6.0+ or is it really that tough of a book.
kimik
SC #22 has always been tough to find in anything better than 6.0, and it looks like you might have to lower that bar to 5.0 since copies in that grade are not that easy to find either. I think it has more to do with the release date (1959) than anything. At that time, Ducks and Western/War books were still the main genres, with only Superman and Batman titles holding any ground on the super-hero side of things. There are more copies of SC #4 out there in 6.0+, but since the book is in a bit of a lull right now there is no need to move them. This had me thinking. I'll make a fun and speculated guess. How many are in collectors hands? I would image there would be 800-1000 How many are in dealers hands? This is a sizzling book for dealers to flip 10-20 copies. How many are for sale at the right price? 700-900 copies How many are not for sale at any price? less than <5 How much does the book have to escalate in value to get more to shake free? 3/4 of AF15's price. Flash105
So you think dealer stock is that low on the book? And that many collectors are willing to sell? Does anybody lock books away anymore? What is the average hold time on high grade books in general? So your opinon is this book has to have another big price run to see a big increase in supply like we saw in 2009. Does anybody lock books away anymore? What is the average hold time on high grade books in general? So your opinon is this book has to have another big price run to see a big increase in supply like we saw in 2009. I think that there will be a bunch of copies on the market in a couple of months again, but the big spike in 2009 also forced a lot of fence sitters (including me) to finally get a copy of SC #22 that will sit in collections for a long time now. It seems like that is the pattern with SA DC collectors - they buy a copy to keep for the long run. WRT high grade books, the best known copy of SC #22 to date (Clink 9.0) is locked up tight. I think that SC #22 is so hard to find in 8.0+ that if you can afford to hold it you will. That being said, over the next decade I expect a number of new HG GA and SA collections to hit the market as long time collectors or their heirs cash out. While these boards are a good representation of the active collector set, there are a lot of old timers with collections amassed in the 50s, 60s and 70s that have yet to resurface. I am hoping the next decade will see some forgotten gems come to market - even if I can't afford them, I can appreciate them. (thumbs u
