SDCC on the move?

59 posts in this topic

What they SHOULD do is expand the convention over two weekends, and restrict ticket buying to one or the other unless it's not sold out with some time to spare.

Yes, it'd be longer....but you'd DOUBLE your audience...and possible revenue.

How many people will end up ruining their con experience because they got caught up in the madness that is Vegas? How many will plan on "just going out to dinner" only to end up coming home at 7am completely trashed after losing butloads of cash gambling and then making a Bunny Ranch run at 4am?

Someone should make a movie about this...

hm

The only thing that would be better is Wizard World Amsterdam

I was in Amsterdam last fall. That would be a fun convention.

Went in April. I think I'll be going there every year from now on :cloud9:

Vegas would be a disaster. Imagine thousands of 38 year old fanboys finally away from living in Mom & Dad's basement as they descend upon Vegas' numerous skin joints to receive their first ever lap dances or cop their first feel. Dealers would go broke as millions of dollars earmarked for Hulk #181s and Batman 227s are instead given to blackjack dealers and girls with names like Pandora Peaks.

Wouldnt that just be part of the fun (shrug)

WW Amsterdam or SDCC at Amsterdam would be a dream ticket...heck, the flight is only 45 minutes from London instead of the usual interminable 11 hours to SD.

It's also the stag night (bachelor party) capital of Europe, at least for Brits. To be honest, I doubt it could cope with 125,000 attendees, or even a tenth of that amount.

I was shopping downtown Waterloo tonite with Louise when I hear my name being yelled as I was standing in a Ladies clothing store.

So picture this.

It's 5 pm, bright sunny day, streets are full of people and I hear my name being yelled over and over.

I look outside and there is an old co-worker of mine surrounded by 1/2 dozen buddies, yelling my name through a dirty orange road pylon being used as a megaphone, dressed in flip flops, a bright pink T shirt and bright pink ladies pajama pants, sporting 3 flowered lays around his neck and a shot gloss.

The shot glass was there for mandatory consumption of a shot of Jagermeister every time he farted.

He'd apparently been tooting since 9:30 this morning at an alarming rate as he could hardly stand up straight.

:roflmao:

Stags are so much fun.

doh!

That sounds pretty typical....you don't see too much of that sort of behavior in Amsterdam, although with all the Brits descending on the place on the weekends it can get a bit lairy.

Still worth a visit or two, tho'.

I went to a big Vegas show back in the 90's. Promoters thought it would be great. All these people winning big at the Casino would come in and blow all that winnings on the convention floor. What ended up happening was they lost all their money in the Casino and then roamed around the convention without buying anything. I got some of my best deals at that show ...

Won't happen. Any talk by comic-con about moving is just a tactic to get San Diego to expand the convention center and/or lower the contract fee for the space. This event brings in WAY to much money that San Diego won't give them a chance to leave

I would agree with this assessment. Hotels are ridiculous though and the prices and availability are hurting buyers coming to the convention

Vegas is much cheaper, and almost everyone will have direct flights. And, of course, there's the whole Sin City appeal! I would vote for the move!

hm I have to say I wish they would move it to Austin Texas (my home state (thumbs u ) But I don't think there is a convention center big enough. Plus the heat during the summer would kill ANYONE not used to it! lol

Plans are already underway to expand the San Diego footprint to 1.2 million sq ft from its current 814,000 sq ft. Note the loading dock area and back parking lot area is gone.
