That's what I meant of course. Super Humanoid was a pretty good guess from memory. I was close on both and yet so far

Yep, the Ultra-humanite. In some of the stories he's very similar to Luthor (bald, mad scientist type), but there's one early story where he takes over the body of a Hollywood starlet and becomes a woman!

In this case, Superman saved the guy and the girl (Ultra) fell into the volcano. She looked a lot like Lois Lane.

The art of this story from Action 21 was attributed to Shuster and Neville and the cover was by Shuster and Cassidy.

 

The comic strip that I posted was week 22 which was probably late 1939 or earl 1940. And I don't know the artists for sure.

Actually in Supermans 1st appearence[[The Reign of the Superman] 1933

He actually started out as a villian.so I quess he himself was the 1st villian.
