need GPA for Civil War Frontline Wizard World Chicago 9.8

Now see that I would understand and to be honest I dont get on the boards a whole lot so I never considered that people may ask over and over again for the info. I'm going to sign up as I still have a lot of raw high grade books and might get some graded that still carry considerable premiums.

Still dont understand why people hijack threads to run their jokes. Its even more annoying when you attempt to use the board sales threads.

Far as people pumping for information I get it every single day and its just part of the job. People walk in every day with collections of comics, cards and anything else they can carry/wheel/push/pull or drag in. Still no need to be rude to someone

The beauty of the Internet is you can be snide to people without risking getting your handed to you.

While that may be true a lot of the time, or maybe even the majority of the time, it's most certainly not true ALL of the time.

The funny thing is, I won't pay the 10 bucks a month. But I could see myself paying $3-5 bucks a month for the very specific cases where I am buying a book. Just this past 2 weeks I picked up Avengers 25 and 57. Both sellers were kind enough to post recent GPA notes in their sales threads (which nobody ever seems to scream at them for hm ). I gladly would have payed $1.00 each to look up info on both books myself.

In the long run, I might spend $20-$40 annually looking up a book here and there. But I don't think I'll spend $10/month. I'm sure there are others who share this sentiment.

+1,000,000

I don't sell slabs very often, and extremely rarely buy them, so don't want to buy GPA. The $10 I would be paying a month would be money I throw out.

I just picked up a collection with 20 slabs in it. I would have HAPPILY paid $1 each to check them all.

There ought to be a way where I could buy a one day subscription to GPA, something like that. I'm positive there are many people who would do this in a heartbeat. (thumbs u

I just re-upped my subscription that I let lapse in May, because I'm getting ready to send in another pre-screen.

Once the month is up, I'll again ask George to cancel the sub for a while.

I would happily pay on a per-use basis.

Or, like, a week for $5.

But, hey, it ain't my company, so hey, what can I say....

It's all about options. The more options you can give potential buyers while keeping your costs down, the better. Are there more costs associated with setting up a pay to play system? Don't know. Would it be worth it? Don't know.

All I know is I would probably buy anywhere from 20-50 slabs in a given year. Maybe half of those I might not have the faintest clue on what to pay for them.

So George might have the opportunity to snag $20-$30 bucks potentially out of me in the course of a year vs the zero dollars he gets now.

Doesn't sound like much I know. But there seems to be alot of folks who are in the same boat. All that adds up to something.

When I first signed up for GPA, I had problems with WorldPay. I emailed George and he gave me a month free while I tried to sort it out. In the interim I asked him if Paypal was a monthly option, and he told me it would have to be on a years pre-pay because of either admin costs or keeping on top of admin (like forgetting to invoice for the payment), I can't remember which.

So I'm pretty certain that the way it is set up is that if someone joined for $1 for one lot of browsing, George would have to cancel their subscription as soon as they logged out.

I could be wrong but from what I can gather it's way too much work to be feasable.

(DISCLAIMER: This not necessarily a serious offer. Particularly if it could get me in hot water with George.

So consider this post :jokealert: )

If either of you want to pay me $3-5 per month, or per look-up, I'll gladly provide you with some GPA info via PM.

Guys, no offense but we're talking about $0.30 a day here.

How much is spent on pop, coffee, cigarettes, bus fare, chocolate, tabloids, papers, rolling papers, porn or cookies in a day?

$0.30 a day.

Really, I'll bet most of us can find that much in change under the car seat and sofa each month.

If you buy a coffee a day you're spending way more.

I know how the argument and discussion goes about slabbed and non slabbed books and I wasn't looking to reopen that here but I do find this service valuable for non slabbed books too whether window shopping at a con or looking on line. You can catch trends that are not visible otherwise.

Personally I think that $10 a month is peanuts for the amount of info in there and it's money well spent if you have a comic book budget of any sizable amount.

You sound like a politician...

"It's only 36 cents a day! It's only 1/4 of a % sales tax!" Eventually, it adds up.

Nickeled....and dimed....to death. (And this has nothing to do with GPA, just the nickeled and dimed concept you're forwarding.)

Come on, you're better than that. You cannot pass judgement on what other people think is or is not worth it to them.

If YOU think it's worth it, then you buy it. If you don't, that doesn't mean you're being cheap, as you imply.

Oh, and for the record, I don't buy pop, coffee, cigarettes (ever), bus fare, chocolate, tabloids, papers, rolling papers, porn OR cookies every day.

And you'd be really hard pressed to find $9.95 + $.30 (which is what it costs me) in change under my car seat or sofa.

I wasn't implying people are cheap. I was simply offering a perspective.

Many people spend a little here and a little there and everything is relative.

I personally don't care where people spend their money so I'm not really judging anyone...I'm just saying that in this day and age if you have a comic budget I would think this is a very valuable resource.

Again, if it works for you to not have it, then all power to you.

No I wouldn't.

It's your sofa, after all.

I would be surprised if Cthulhu himself were under your cushions.

Let me give you another perspective...

If I buy a sub, and check several hundred prices over the course of 2 days...and then don't touch the service again for 4 months....

Is that worth the $41 I have spent for the service?

It depends on how much you value that knowledge or those statistics.

(shrug)

Some people find it valuable and some don't. If I find info valuable I'll pay for it even if it's not profitable.

ie. I used to buy sports car mags just to read and dream. I must have spent $50+ a month as a teenager.

Useful? No.

Did I see value in it? Yes.

To me it was money worth "throwing away" because of what I got out of it.
