Actually, I think the Age of consent here is 16. I'll have to check on that. Drinking/gambling age is 19, so the age of consent might be lower too. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif And women are allowed to go topless here, but none of them actually do it. mad.gif

Yep... as a matter of fact, the US is just about the only civilized country left in the world that doesn't have some form of legalized prostitution...

 

The rules in Canada are a little stricter than in most of Europe, and certainly stricter than in Southeast Asia... But outcall independent prostitution is completely legal in Canada. The only major restrictions are that no one other than the sex worker can earn a living off the transaction. So no pimps, no madams. The enforcement typically extends to brothels, unless they are formed as a co-op of sex workers, and even then it gets dicey. Street prostitution is technically illegal because the solicitation cannot occur in a public place. But if you look in a Vancouver phone book, you'll find 40+ pages of Escort solicitations ranging from those specializing in 21-year-olds to those specializing in Senior Citizens (the escorts, not the patrons...)

 

The Asian Massage Parlors get around the "brothel" rules, because technically the establishment is there for massages. And no contract for sexual activity is made in the public areas. It's a private arrangement between the masseuse and the client once in the private room, and is therefore protected.

 

I could quote a ridiculous number of studies that have shown that the availability of legal prostitution reduces crime rates (especially violent crimes) both against women and against men. Not true...

 

It varies by state. Some states require that the ages of the partners be within a certain window (24-48months) if the younger partner is below a certain age. But in many states the standard age of consent is 16 for heterosexual sex, even if the older partner is 50+...
