Which of these SA/BA books should I slab?

51 posts in this topic

I'm planning to upgrade my CGC membership so I can get the 3 coupons for submitting books. What I'm trying to figure out is which of my SA/BA books should I use them for. The FF 10 seems like a good one to use one of the coupons for but I'm stumped as to which ones to use with the other two. Here are ones that I think could be eligible for slabbing. I admit one or two shouldn't really be on this list but I'll throw them in anyway:

That's a long list! Slab your faves, or slab the books you want to sell.

lol. My original list was even longer as it included the Copper and Modern books I have too but I decided to concentrate on Silver and Bronze. I'm just what trying to identify what are the best books to use free coupons on.

No offence intended, but how did you arrive at the grades?

Are they the grades that you bought them at, or your own?

If your own, how many books have you submitted to CGC previously? (shrug)

Yeah, I see no reason to slab any of them unless your planning to sell them.

Actually, I can see no reason to slab any of them unless you want to keep them.

There aren't any on the list that would justify slabbing to sell.

For the majority, those are the grades that I bought them at.

I definitely want to get the FF 10 done as it has quite a bit of chipping on the right side of the front cover and there are still a couple of bits that could easily break off. I'd rather have it slabbed than keep it in a mylite2 and fullback.

And I have never submitted to CGC before.

Slabbing them because you want them is fine but you'd be losing money by getting them slabbed to sell.

Why is that exactly? I'm not at all offended by you guys saying that that but I would genuinely like to know why exactly that is the case. Is it because the grades aren't high enough and only 9.4 and above books are worth doing unless they are major key issues?

I see very little on this list that would justify the cost of slabbing. Maybe the Spidey #50. Maybe. Spidey #98, maybe. Suspense #99, maybe. X-Men #63, maybe.

The X-mens 97-up? Forget it.

And, of course, this assumes your grades = CGC's grades.

Good luck.

Pretty much so. It's worth checking to see if you could buy a book already slabbed versus the cost of slabbing.

Since you're in the UK you should factor in the cost of shipping and insurance. I know from experience how this can mount up especially if the exchange rate isn't in your favour.

Not really worth it for either. Although a #252 3.0 sold for more than an 8.5 :insane:

Assuming that your grades are accurate and in line with CGC's, you'll be paying for shipping and insurance to and from CGC along with the cost of getting the book slabbed. Looking at GPA and seeing what books in similar condition have sold for will give you an idea if it's worthwhile. You have to factor all that in when you decide to get a book graded
