I still say collection:

I agree with you Doc in the fact that it isnt anywhere in the realm of being a really nice Pedigree. Its quality is more like that of a nice collection.

It isnt a Pac Coast, Curator, Mass., White Mountain, Northland style Pedigree for sure

Who can say for sure tho? Other than Don i dont know anyone who has seen the OO SA books.

If post-1966 books get a pedigree, then the term has been completely de-valued.
IMO that is a very short sighted view. I think collectors 25-40 years from now will appreciate well documented, high grade OO bronze and copper collections as well. If anyone collects comics anymore lol.

I disagree. The majority of post-1966 books are plentiful in high-grade. Nothing special.

I just had a nice conversation with a CGC employee on pedigrees.

Regarding the Don Rosa Collection, he said it is NOT recognized as a pedigree by CGC, it is recognized as a Collection. Big difference. They are acknowledging the book came from a famous owner, no different than the Nicholas Cage Collection.

The presence of the word 'collection' on the CGC label means collection, not pedigree. A Pedigree has to be Original Owner books, the Don Rosa's are not all originally owned. There you have it, direct from CGC !

Then CGC needs change its website in which it is listed as a recognized "pedigree". I have read that he did buy bronze and copper age books from the rack, which is where the confusion may lie. Regardless, I personally think the whole debate between collection and pedigree is a waste of valuable time. Case in point, would you rather have a book from the Davis Crippen pedigree or a book for Stan Lee's personal collection (assuming he bought the book in question second hand and not off the rack)? The answer will depend on the value to the individual collector.

I think the list you quote is met to specify what they recognize on the label.

Syntax wise maybe they should say 'pedigree/collections'.

Then where's the Nic Cage and Donald Stephens Collection designations?
