Grade my first Silver Age Key... Batman 181

7 posts in this topic

The book has some water damage. A light stain is most visible on the back cover. The interior of the book shows almost no damage(if you look very bery close you can see some discoloration of the page, but the color and ink in the panesl is not effected.). The staples have very little creases or tears... One on the bottom stape and two on the top. I think they are tears but I dont want to make them worse finding out. Other then those 3 small marks there are no other spine creases. the front left shows corner shows some minor blunting . The front right coner has a very light ripple and the two creases visible on the scan, Without the water damage I could call the book Very Fine. But the question comes in how much effect the water damge has on the grade. It is really only visible or noticeable on the back cover unless you are looking for it.

I keep switching it back and forth from Very Good + to Fine to Good + and yadda yadda so your thoughts are appreciated...

I am considering it as my first book to send to CGC. Should I? Is it worth grading?

I would say VG because of the water damage. Stinks when one major flaw takes away from an otherwise nicer copy. Could it be a "qualified" situation?

As far as CGC goes IMHO I probably wouldn't send it. 181 guides for $34 in VG and $51 in fine, and I think it would be hard to make up your CGC costs.
