I liked LA Confidential and The Departed. Probably the two best I can think of.

Read my mind bro, I was going to mention The Departed. :headbang:

Really? I thought the Departed was way over-hyped, and really not all that interesting. (shrug)

I'm Scorsese's beeeeyotch. I would watch a dog lick himself for 2 hours if Scorsese directed it.

I was so shocked/mad at what happened in the elevator at the end, that I screamed, out loud, at the movie theater - "No f-ing way!" I was pizzed the whole way home. I have probably seen it 6 or 7 times now and absolutely think it was a masterpiece.

I was watching at home and I literally jumped off the couch. I really cared about the character, which is what made that movie so great.

That's exactly how it happened for me.

Not to turn this into a movie thread (too late), but I was really invested in that flick. I liked it even better than (gasp!) Goodfellas or Casino. I just felt the tension in that movie was just so thick. There were times I was nearly sweating thinking he was about to be discovered.

Also loved the "six degrees of seperation" aspect between all the main players. All that time, so close together but so far away.

The good Dr's intent all along was to preserve the Northland pedigree of the book.

He did not crack open the slab and simply wanted to improve the condition of the book for his personal collection so I believe his actions were fine.

'IF' he had simply cracked open a ped to press it and flip it for money, his actions would have been interpreted as greed and could be debated.

Pedigree collectors love their books in any grade. He wanted it badly as an 8.0.

After all his efforts he deserves a 9.0 .

Totally agree. He actually saved a book that would have been lost by a cracker. And let's be honest, we throw around the word responsibility and treasure but an 8.0 X-Men #8 is hardly a treasure. And as far as hurting books everytime one you guys move a book, ship a book, put it under light, breathe on the damn thing you are hurting it. It is his book and as long as isn't a rarity, I beleive he can do what he wants to do with it. Maybe he might even read it.

And for all of you f--ckin anti-pressers I assume you understand that the entire Church collection is restored under your conditions since those books were essentially pressed for 40 years.

You can all go f yourselves for ting this thread.

WTF does rarity have to do with it if its his book? How rare does it have to be and who makes the decision. Please explain, but in a calm rational voice...not your normal, over the top, internet tough guy voice.

Dude you must have me confused with someone. This is the first time I have ever gone off on these boards and I think it only had to do with the fact that this really cool thread turned into the 50000th pressing thread on the boards.

You are right that rarity is not involved at all. He can do whatever he wants to the book even it is the Church Action 1. But I think most of us look at the hobby with a little more enlightened view and think that preserving the true gems and the true one of the kinds for future collectors is important. That being said, I could not understand why anyone would care what someone did to an X-Men 8 in 8.0 pedigree or not. There are approximately 120 at that grade or higher for a low demand book. They best thing one could do with it would be to read it and share it.

As for equating pressing with printing money that seems a little much. Printing money is an endless supply. Pressing is limited to how many are within a couple of grade points. But again this is just a rehash of what has been said thousands of times. You are not going to convince me and I'm not going to convince you. I would just ask for the anti-pressers to save their venom for a book a little more important than this one.

As for Last of the Mohicans... :cloud9:

Wes Studi's Magua is one of the best cinematic villains ever. :headbang:

I love Last of the Mohicans as well but I like pretty much like anything Michael Mann has done. Probably my favorite movie of all time is Heat.

Honorable mention: The Insider and The Kingdom.

They might ask the same of you. (shrug)

Hey I admitted I lost it. Doesn't everyone get one mulligan.

Of course! Some of us have had multiple mulligans. (thumbs u

Edit: You also receive an additional mulligan for the "Heat" comment above. Great movie.

(tsk)

I really did. No foolin'

Not to say Goodfellas isn't a great flick. It is. "The Departed" just sucked me in moreso than most. I'd put it in my top 5-10.

I saw "There Will Be Blood" and "No Country for Old Men" in the same weekend. Spoiled me for the rest of the year.

Haven't seen "TWBB".

Thought "No Country" was very good. Not great, but certainly very good.

As another poster so eloquently pointed out to others, you obviously haven't seen "Encino Man".

Whether you care about the issue or not is mute. And the fact it may be available in higher grades is also mute. It's a pedigree. That makes the issue special whether you agree with it or not. CGC has decided to grant the issue a special status based on it's history. A history, based on the definition of a pedigree, now ruined. It has nothing to do with desirability or even numbers available in, or higher, grade.

A pedigree signifies a special comic that has survived the ravages of time in a collection. Modifying the comic deliberately based on aesthetics has now tarnished that pedigree designation and made it just another comic in the collective.

Soooo, based on that statement you believe all the color touched Mile Highs are no longer Mile Highs?
