Could you reduce your collection to just 350 comics?

I think so, but I wouldn't want to. I love going through long boxes and remembering what I have. I have only about three now. In 2000, I sold off about 25 boxes of stuff on eBay and at the LCS.

I currently have about 8,000 books. Would love to get it down to about 2,000. 99% of my post-1980 books can go.

 

Staying would be my 200 good Gold and Silver books; my Uncanny X-Men 94-400; Ghost Rider vol. 1 set; Woverine vol. 2 (near-) set; Valiant vol. 1 (near-) set; Tick set; Animal Man (near-) set; and about 2-3 long boxes of Batman books.

 

With Sandman, Hellblazer, 100 Bullets, Y, and Ex Machina, I'm okay with trades.

 

Decided recently that my new collecting focus is pre-1963, and in the next 5 years would like to work on Nedors, Wonder Woman 2-10, Justice League 1-10, Superman 60-100, and Our Army at War 81-100 at a pace of about 2-3 books a month.

 

Works out to about a long-box of cool old books total!

Being a run collector, this would be difficult without disposing of the key essence of my collection. Just my complete FF run is around 700.

My only real focus now is Golden Age. So, my plan is cut down my collection from about 9,000 to about 100 over the next few years.

I would have to increase my collection to get to 350. I seem to take one step forward and two steps back. For every new addition to my collection in a condition I now like, I find two books that "no longer make it".

This would be my goal but after going through the runs I'm aiming for it's probably not going to happen.

No I don't think its possible. I have over 5000 books. I really don't know. But I could drop that number to maybe 2000-2500.

I have found that distilling down the collecting side of comics to a very small, special group of books has kept me involved in the hobby, when otherwise I may have lost interest. I have always loved the hunt for books more than the ownership, and with the rise of the internet, there is little that is truly hard to find (from the S.A. up) . Expensive, yes... But not hard to find.

 

So, to answer the original question, Yes, right now I'm at about 300 books (and shrinking), and I don't buy unless I offload something else to pay for new acquisitions (net zero cost for any new purchases). TPBs for reading mostly any series I want, so I am very happy with a small collection of actual comics.

I'm not quite there. I recently downsized to 2 long boxes and 2 magazine boxes. I enjoy the fact that I have more quality than quantity!
