Could you reduce your collection to just 350 comics?

71 posts in this topic

Over the last couple of years, I've been able to winnow my collection down from a high of over 60 short boxes to just 18 (including 3 CGC boxes). I don't think I can get down to 350; there's just too many books that I'd want to keep (and even more that are still on my wantlist). I'd love to get down to less than 12 total boxes or 1000 comics.

Funny.. I am actually just at the ending of doing just that. About 8 month's ago I started with about 60 long boxes of raw comics. Now I'm down to about 300 raw books and 600 slabbed books. I've been posting them on Ebay in no reserve auctions every week. Some weeks are def better than others - it is risky...

I had full/near full runs of virtually every post 1960-1980 title out their. Now I'm concentrating on higher grade copies of only a select few runs. Makes collecting easier and I wont have so many damn multiples... I actually had twenty two SC 22's and fifty JIM 85's (Which I still have many from 6.0-8.0 if anyone wants one )

Kinda sucked to do, but I had to do it as I live in a small apartment and I was a very disorganized collector. Now, everythings gravy and I'm much happier without all the raws.

easily...I have been working in the last year or so to whittle down my collection and focus on higher end and really nice copies of the things that I wanted...Everything has been getting whittled down, art, prints, baseball cards, comics, and toys. Just keeping the best, selling the rest and funding new purchases..but if you can sell a short box of drek and buy a low grade early daredevil then that seems like a win-win and you made your collection much nicer and smaller.

I would love to be down to less than 1000 items in my total collection including everything not just comics.

I am working my way there......sell what you don't love and buy what you will love. My collection has gone from about 6000 books to about 4000 in the past few years....it is a cull in process.

If I had to get rid of everything that I don't love, then I would probably be at about 300 books..... hm

350 books? I get about that many in the mail per month to fill in holes in my collection (a bit over 50,000 or so! :ohnoez: ), so I must say my answer is a definite "no".

I love my comic book collection! :whee:

Hell, I even love the bad books (early Image, mid-90s Marvels, various 80s B&W ). I may actually hate the books as reading material, but I just love owning them and having them around. ("Around" meaning a room full of comic books plus one storage closet a couple of blocks away from my place.)

Seriously, if the dual problem of huge international shipping charges and (relatively) limited storage space could somehow magically be solved, I think I'd probably own twice as many books...

I'd like about 50 books. Bugs Bunny Four Color 33-400 about 20 books. Other key 1st appearance cartoon books about 20-30 books. Maybe a mega key like Superman 1. But I really enjoy buying collections and selling them off, maybe keeping a few books. The buying of collections seems to out pace the selling, so right now I have about 4000 I'd like to sell.

with the advent of Masterworks and Essentials, I've literally only bought a handful of comics in the past couple years for myself. I have about 5 short boxes of Silver/Bronze, a short box of Indies, and and 2-3 magazine boxes that are the core of my collection. I have some other random stuff, and short runs of books that I intend to have bound, which I did with about 100 books already-The Best of Eclipe, Best of Pacific Comics, random limited series, etc. I know having books bound into hardbacks is blasphemy to a board of slab junkies, but some stuff is just for reading and what else is there to do with VG-FN books?

When I got back into collection in 2007 I told my wife I would keep it to one long box. Well three years later I have 10 boxes of slabs and five boxes of raw books. I admit I have a problem but I just like my books.

Yeah I could live with just 350 books. If it could be any 350 of my choice here is my dream list of 350 comics and never be able to purchase another on after these 350

That is a killer list. What percentage of these do you have right now? I assume you have a lot more than 350 now as well?
