Here's another I picked up from Harley Yee last weekend.

Millie the Model #120 • May 1964 • February 1964 newsstand

Poor Millie has to give up modeling on her doctor's advice. Turns out he confused Millie's x-ray with that of a ninety year old woman. Mistakes happen.

Late SA Avengers that came in recently; both are upgrades. Avengers #31 (Rocky Mountain) I picked up from the CL auction. Avengers #39 I picked up during the Pedigree auction. Slight mis-wraps on both, but I'll live with it.

Been looking for a good copy of this for some time. Courtesy of Foolkiller.

Amazing Spider-Man #30 • November 1965 • August 1965 newsstand

It's a great cover*.

*I'll just note that the crease at the top is virtually unnoticeable first hand.

My first issue of Kathy and last issue of the series.

Kathy #27 • February 1964 • December 1963 newsstand

A Harley Yee purchase from the Toronto Fan Appreciation Comicon.

I was happy to get this one as I saw it contained a story that I had personally demanded.

Nice one! A title far too often overlooked by Marvel zombies.

Strange Tales #132 • May 1965 • February 1965 newsstand

ST132FMay65.jpg

It is quite the nuttiest most mixed-up yarn. Even Lee admits in the letter pages that he can't quite figure out the motivation of the villain in the Torch/Thing story, as plotted by himself and dialogued by Larry Ivie.

This is one of those covers that, as a young fellow, I didn't care for.....but it has really grown on me over the years.....featuring one of those ever present Ditko water towers. He used them so often I'm surprised he didn't feature one in one of those 5 page fantasy back up yarns. GOD BLESS...

This is one of the great DITKO covers...just a classic exercise in perspective, contrast, light and color that equates to a TON of drama...while equally conveying a sense of darkness and dread...you gotta love it! :headbang:

The last of my teen title purchases from Harley from two weekends past.

Modeling with Millie #35 • November 1964 • September 1964 newsstand

MwM35FNov64.jpg

Pink is a dramatic colour on these early Marvel teen titles. It must have stood out on the newsstand and comic racks.

Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos #23 • October 1965 • August 1965 newsstand

Any issue that involves rescuing a nun, several small children and fighting off an intense army of soldiers yelling, "Banzai", is a good comic.

If Sgt. Bull McGiveney says, "Face front!", you face front!

My last from a small stack of books I just picked up.

A decent looking copy from the very tail end of the period I collect.

Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commados #25 • December 1965 • October 1965 newsstand

Apparently in the GCD, there's a bit a of inking debate as to whether Kirby was inked by Giacoia or Tartaglione (who does the interior). Funny, I'd always thought, just looking, that it had been Colletta. (shrug)
