Fellow board member needing assistance

Hello fellow forumites,

One of our own is going through a terrible time searching for work after being unemployed for over a year. The area in which he lives suffers from a whopping 23% unemployment rate. He was honorably discharged from the Army for medical reasons and is currently studying to become a counselor. He has been spending any cash he does have on school and searching for work.

I don't want to possibly embarrass him by announcing his name, but a large group of us are pulling together collectible donations for a forum auction, and all funds raised will be given to the forumite directly. He is so cash-strapped, he is about to be evicted from his apartment, so we are aiming to have a short auction. Our plan is to kick off the auctions tomorrow and have them go for 5 days, so anything raised can be sent to him immediately.

If you are able to help out, you can PM me directly as I will be pulling together the details with a few members to help administer the auctions. I've messaged Gemma FlyingDonut about possibly setting up the auctions in the VCC forum, so please be on the look out for them.

We've already gotten book donations from several boardies, including Bosco685, joker-fish, EvilAsh, Sexyghoul, NewEnglandGothic, faster friends, cheryllynn, and DeafMuteComics, with more to come! We've also already raised some money thanks to the thoughtful donations of Chespirito, Designer Toast, Norinn Radd, FIREFLY, FUELMAN, and Kathryn! Thanks, guys!

Thanks to everyone for listening,

Lebowski

Not sure if he has tried it, but have him check out:

http://iava.org/

http://www.hireahero.org/

Lots of good info there as well as some networking possibilities.

I've tried all of those, no luck. I also have an open VA case regarding my situation.

Lebowski is one of my online friends, and I had no idea he was doing this for me until I stumbled upon this thread. While I salute him for looking out for one of his buddies, I have to implore the rest of you to put your hard-earned cash to a more worthy endeavor that doesn't involve me.

All I am is a guy who's fallen on hard times. I don't deserve any money for that, and it won't kill me if I get evicted, it'll just sting a little bit, and be chilly when I sleep outside.

You should be qualified for the 9/11 GI BILL, you will get a monthly stipend for going to school full time. Good luck with the VA. Are you going directly through the VA or are you using a Veteran Service Officer? Its better if you use VSO, trying to get a claim granted with the VA by yourself is a nightmare. My wife has claims with the VA right now that are over a year old, wish you all the best.

I will be happy to donate for and put some bids in for an auction for Beau. One of the funniest boardies out there. Please make sure and put a link to the auction thread in this thread.

PS: WOLVERINES!
