besides the catalogs are a good way to do a first cut. Its easier to identify the 15 things you might like in the catalog... and then do a second cut of those online. But if you try to look at the whole catalog online its harder on the eyes and just not as enjoyable

Heritage if you're listening you really need to ship out the international catalogs a little sooner. Pretty useless when it arrives the day before or day of! People need some time to look through it and consider their bids!

I got mine weeks ago and I live a lot further away than you do!

:boo:

I got mine... today. As predicted.

Maybe your postman takes it home to read first.

Yes but I've done many a good "analysis" sitting on the can flipping through those catelogs. Try and do that with your laptop.
I have ...quite easy actually :baiting:

An iPad makes it easier.

The worse thing is now my wife looks at the Heritage catalogue and asks me if I'm bidding on certain books. It's getting harder to sneak comic books in the house now

I am truly finding it "hard" to find any books to bid on

Is that because of the prices already of some of the books?

a combo of things...

1)selection - there are very few books I am "interested" in buying

2)price- a few are on the cusp of the level I am comfortable paying, and a couple already out of my comfort level

3)available funds-no secret my buying for personal collecting reasons has been stymied in the past few years due to the "collapse" in the toy/action figure market...so, I have to choose wisely and carefully these days, as buying a book requires me to sell a book in order to fund it

Sorry to hear Rick. Is it a general malaise in toys/action figures (new and vintage) or just the new releases?

I predominantly dealt in new releases...we would presell enough to actually import FOB from HK, and thus could price ourselves cheaper than Walmart, TRU, etc...

that gave me a nice market niche...

now that demand is down as much as 80% on some lines (oil and economy and just lifelines of the product lines are all in culmination as the reason), I no longer have the buying power to buy FOB HK, so I have to buy domestically (at double digit higher cost) and therefore have to charge more, and subsequently sell less (due to price point, economy, general lowering of demand, etc)

I just finished by 6 month P/L and we are still in the red for the year...in fact, my profit was down over 90% last year from 2 years ago... so, as a profitable business, it is "done" for me (and most)

My problem is my suppliers buy from asia. Mark it up 400 percent just for handing it to me leaving crumbs for me.The material isnt expensive the greedy american markup is.Ive gotta find away around my U.S conterparts to get to the source and I of course will.. In time.
