Matt Nelson and his Pre Screening Services

Matt is super solid. He has about a 95% correct rate for me. The only ones he has missed have been his prediction 9.4s that came back 9.2. And understand that this was for post-pressed grade, so it is nowhere near an exact science. Highly recommended.

How does his pre screen compare to CGC? I mean aside from him being a little cheaper..

Totally different services. Matt's prescreen is more comprehensive. Matt will give you an estimate of the grade and check for resto. CGC will only check for a minimum grade. You can prescreen as few as a single book with Matt. With CGC you need at least 30.

I think CGC has raised the minimum now to 50 books as well as the price per failed books to $5 from $4.

I'll vouch for Matt 100%... since I live in Dallas I go see him in person - very easy to deal with, and his grading has been pretty spot on for me. Some up, some down, but on average he's right on.

As for restoration checks, he's never missed anything for me that came back with a PLOD. So even if you're not looking for pressing, I'd recommend him for that.

I used Matt for the first time this March for ten books. He hit nine of ten. The only one he missed was an ASM 129. He graded 9.0 and it came back 9.2. :headbang:

I found him to be responsive and dependable. (thumbs u

I just saw Matt yesterday in Chicago and had him proscreen some books for me.

- One I thought had resto but was not sure. He verified it had CT. It would have been easy to remove but only worthwhile if it graded 9.4. He gave me an honest opinion that it may only get a 9.2 so I passed.

- A 9.2ish early SA book had a really sharp right edge and I thought it was trimmed. He verified it was not !

- On a GA book I could see what looked like color bleed on the interior of the FC. He verified it was not CT, what a relief !

- I had another book that looked like it was a perfect candidate for a press but Matt

said, though the book would look a little better, it wouldn't increase the grade because of another flaw.

Matt Nelson is a professional, a specialist in his field. The advice he can give you on restoration, whether it be removal or detection, is worth the fee alone. He gives you an honest evaluation if the book warrants a press or not. He's not cheap but you are paying for much more than a simple pressing service.
