Gary Oldman is set to play a cop opposite Christian Bale in “Batman Begins,” which has begun production in Iceland.

Christopher Nolan is directing the Warner Bros. film, which also will shoot in London and Chicago. Oldman will play Lt. James Gordon, a detective on the Gotham police force.

He joins Bale, cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman; Michael Caine as Wayne’s trusted butler, Alfred; Katie Holmes as a childhood friend of Wayne’s; Liam Neeson as Wayne’s mentor Henri Ducard; and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, a former board member and sidelined employee of Wayne Enterprises.

Oldman next stars in “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” His last major films were 2001’s “Hannibal,” and 2000’s “The Contender.”

Gary Oldman is a god. He almost never makes bad movies, and even then he's intense and worth watching.

His white rasta pimp character in "True Romance" was absolutely frighteningly good.

His crooked cop in "Rome Is Bleeding" was mesmerizing.

His Beethoven in "Dearly Beloved" was moving.

His Irish mobster in "State of Grace" was tremendous.

Okay, so he kinda stank in "Lost in Space," but who didn't?

I think Oldman will rock as the Commish !

Let's not forget his pill-popping character from The Professional... cloud9.gif

For the record, State of Grace and True Romance are two of my all-time favourite movies. thumbsup2.gif
