McFarlane in NYCC

3 posts in this topic

There will be no Todd McFarlane CGC signings whatsoever during The New York Comic Con. No witnesses will be present at any McFarlane signing that weekend. Todd has requested this, and we are happy to comply with his wishes. We are sure that there will be Signature Series opportunities with him in the future.

Mr. McFarlane does not want to be expected to sign for us every time. He shouldn't be expected to. If the creator doesn't want to sign, that is their choice. We forget how privilaged and lucky we are when creators sign books for us. They have the right of refusal, we do not have the right to demand.

There are no burned bridges here. There is an open line of communication and we look forward to working with Mr. McFarlane in the future when the time is right for him.

This post has been edited to the initial announcement made by Joe Pierson, the CGC Signature Series Director, and a clarification made by Paul Litch CGC's VP. It will remain a sticky post until the weekend of the New York Comic-Con, so that as many people as possible can see it before the NYCC so as to spare themselves the efforts of prepping books for Mr. McFarlane to sign at the event.

The simple fact of Mr. McFarlane's appearance at the NYCC is that he will only be there for a very limited time and he does not have time to do a separate CGC SS signing for collectors --- which is his preference, and the company has agreed to follow his request.

We're certain that this is disappointing to many, but fighting/complaining about it and vilifying the creator, facilitators or the company serves no one any benefit. For that reason this topic has been locked and moved up to be an announcement.
