Let's try that again...This place used to be fun.

27 posts in this topic

There's the 'fhqwhgads' thread and the 'burp' thread.

There's post like this...

"About how this hobby is going to hell in a handcart and that the sky is falling due to greed, forgeries, fickle investors, no-one under 45 being interested anymore, dishonest dealers, ebay shilling, CGC shills, RMA's post-dissecting technique, greggy's strawberry shortcake fetish, undisclosed trimming, Dupcak, cdpaoli / lexerific / makemeanofferandwin, buying the label and not the book, the end of Hollywood's interest in funnybook characters and no-one knowing who cgcmod5 is. "

Every chance you get, you lay into each other! (you know who you are!)

Have you people gone insane! :insane:

Every second thread seems to be about pressing, speculating, scamming and non-disclosing.

What about collecting, reading, appreciating and analysing.

Discussions about creators and publishers and artists and writers and editors and inkers and pencillers and covers and what's worth collecting and what's worth reading.

Once again... it's funny books!

Enjoy 'em. Collect 'em. Read 'em.

By chance, do you ever head over to the "Age" forum areas where much of this is discussed? Other than the Modern area recently, they are fairly tame discussions about old/new books, creators, questions about publication details.

Just a suggestion.

In all seriosness general is where most of that happens. The people that really care about books venture into their given ages of collecting such as Golden, Silver or Copper age. Even a couple go into the modern section. Those sections have less of the drama.

The problem, mate, is that this is the CGC boards.

CGC is not really about reading the story, appreciating the art and filling your gaps with 'beat but complete' copies.

CGC is mainly about the commercial aspect of this hobby, the reduction of funny books to commodities...and with this comes all sorts of shenanigans, because ultimately, we're talking about the benjamins and the benjamins make people do some unsavoury things.

That is why you will always get a constant flow of threads about pressing, speculating, scamming and non-disclosing...because that all relates to the monetary aspect of this hobby.

There are boards out there that don't discuss those topics, other than they might be an occasional minor side-bar, but here they're always going to be front and centre. (thumbs u

That was meant to be funny, and wasn't aimed at anyone specifically.

Gosh, never thought about those aspects of collecting. :eyeroll: (There's also the Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper Modern Forums etc. for that.)

Thanks for the tip, Captain Platitude.

So my fhqwhgads thread pushed you over the edge?

You should probably invest in some type of mechanical sexual device. You can't let that stuff build up.

And +1 on that. There's a lot of really good discussion, flame-free in the specific topic forums.

No, it's actually not, there are just far less active members and fewer posts now than back then - a higher level of personal antagonism exists though.

When money is involved, it always will get nasty, if it is just about reading of the comics it wouldn`t be as nasty. Things could get worse as comics are starting to make the transition of going digital/Ipad which will make floppies market even smaller for investors/collectors. With a smaller pool collecting, dealers will have to step up thier game to keep the gravy train running. The landscape of comic collecting will be far different in 5 years then it is now .
