Joe Simon at Big Apple Comic Con Saturday, Oct 2, 3:30 - 5:30!

Wizard Conventions is announcing that comic legend Joe Simon will be appearing at the Big Apple Convention this Saturday Oct. 2 from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM Doug Wright's Booth # 436. He will be available to sign and meet with is many, many fans.

 

Besides being the creator/co-creator of some of comics greatest characters (Captain America, Boy Commandos, Boy's Ranch, The Fly, Fighting American), Joe was also an editor and publisher. Titan Books recently began publishing The Simon & Kirby Library featuring many of his greatest creations. Take advantage of this extremely rare opportunity to met with this comic book great!

 

The Wizard Big Apple Convention will be at the Penn Plaza Pavilion.

The Penn Plaza Pavilion is located at 401 Seventh Avenue at 33rd St., in the historic Hotel Pennsylvania. Big Apple Comic Con is the fifth stop on Wizard’s eight-city 2010 North American tour. Hours are Friday, Oct. 1, 5-9 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 2, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 3, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (all times Eastern). Tickets are available in advance or by calling 1-866-882-5860 and online at www.wizardworld.com/bigapple.html at up to a 15% savings over tickets purchased at the door. Advance adult single-day tickets are $25; three-day weekend tickets are $45, and tickets are free for children age 10 and under when accompanied by a paid adult (limit two children per adult). VIP packages with special entry and exclusive items are also available.

Yeah, they are influential in the fact that they are running conventions all over the country. I think they miscalculated in going up against NYCC. I think the show next June will be very good.

 

Wizard is sort of in transition right now (at least it seems to me). I don't think Marvel & DC are doing the Wizard Conventions anymore, and they (Wizard) are trying to figure out how to adapt. They have kind of gone the easy celebrity route in my opinion, but some of the dealers have been talking to them about trying to get frontline comic guests into the show. Hopefully, this will happen and the shows will rebound as far as being comic book conventions.

In 1990 Joe wrote his memoirs , "Joe Simon With Joe Simon". it is one of the best history of comics that i have ever had the pleasure of reading. Not only is it well written but there are illustrations in the book that I have never seen anywhere else. The book traces Joe's entire career as well as the growth of comics from the Golden age on. It is out of print now but you can find copies on Ebay! It is a must for all Joe Simon fans!
