What a book (Pt 2!!!!!)

29 posts in this topic

That's the one that was on Bob's (highgradecomics.com) site for the past few weeks at $35K.

Did he sell it and this is a flip, or did the seller think that he could get more on ComicLink. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

mean, it's friggin Ant Man fer Chrissakes!

Exactly and he's not even in costume in this book. Shouldn't it be re-classified as a cameo?

Two points:

1) Fantastic Four is not in costume in the first issue either, but no one would call that a cameo, would they?

2) Ant-Man is the second Marvel Universe hero. Plus, there is only one copy in 9.4 or better. So this is the best. Only takes one buyer to want it, to pay the price, because at this time, there are no other options.

I WAS being slightly sarcastic, but thanks for clarification. grin.gif

Okay, if you're counting "Man in the Anthill" as a superhero appearance, then Dr Droom (Dr Druid) definitely qualifies, which makes this the Third Marvel Universe Hero. thumbsup2.gif

You mean there is only one SLABBED copy in 9.4 or better. The census does not represent even close to half of what's out there. 893naughty-thumb.gif

You've seen lots of NM copies of this book? I'd have a hard time believing there's many more copies of this book in anything above 9.0. Sure there might be 1-2 more NM but this is an incredibly tough Marvel.

I know of at least 1 other who has an unslabbed copy in NM/NM+. And he's had it for 15 years or more. And yes, the book is not an overgraded pre-CGC NM. There may not be many out there, but there are probably more than you think.

Most collectors realize that there are other high-grade issues of lots of books that haven't been graded.

That said, there is also no guarantee that these "other" books will EVER be CGC'd in our lifetime. Especially, the PRIZE books in collections. The collectors know that if they ever sell those books, they might not be able to obtain another copy (regardless of price).

That's the key to pop culture collectibles, especially something as recent as the 1960's. 893whatthe.gif

Long-time collectors are still pulling NM 1800's Cigarette Baseball Cards out of their butt, so why would anyone believe that 1960's comics would be rare? confused-smiley-013.gif
