The Leader and his first plastic Humanoid made their first appearance in the Marvel Universe in Tales To Astonish #62. They appeared in only one panel. The Leader was partly in shadow and wearing a helmet that hid his face and the Humanoid was in a giant transparent tube that obscured his features. In this splash page to TTA #63 they are both clearly shown for the first time. However the Leader is still wearing his helmet so you had to turn the page to see his face.

How you can tell if you were too much of a Silver Age Marvel art geek: You can look at any SA splash page and instantly tell, without even looking at the credits, whether Art Simek or Sam Rosen lettered it.

 

Great stuff! Roussos was never my favorite Ditko inker (hardly anyone but Ditko himslef is) but his work in Marvel's Silver Age is so nostalgic for me.
