March Menage e Trois, Pedigree, ComicConnect, and Comiclink Auction results

298 posts in this topic

Yeah...I'm not so sure about the timing of it all. The Pedigree and ComicConnect auctions started last night, and the C-link begins tonight, and its not even a major auction month (Featured, Signature, etc.) just the regularly month fare. Then there is a convention at the end of the week (Mega-Con!) and even Brian/Foolkiller is running a sales thread this week. Bad times indeed if you are broke.

So, post your wins/remarks/observations from all three auctions here.

My favorite win (so-far) from the Pedigree site:

I won nothing on ComicConnect, not for lack of trying. Strong bids on many of the Suscha News books.

I like the idea of grouping them all together for a given month. (thumbs u

This win makes me one book away from completing all my Marvel runs for the first time. That one remaining book is a particular Spidey book that's easy to guess.

Oh yea, and I just remembered...that means the 8.0 or better FF run (vast majority is 9.x) is COMPLETE!!! :acclaim:

Except the #1 is a 7.0, which I put a lowball bid on and didn't even think I'd win. Next up after my remaining Spidey issue is to upgrade that. If only I could cast off the last of my lingering communist/socialist tendencies that keep standing in the way of selling comics. hm

As usual, almost every book i wanted in the Pedigree auction had a reserve WELL over GPA when in every other auction they are going WELL under GPA :eyeroll:

I'm really getting sick of all the HIGH reserves in Pedigree auctions rantrant

I did get these 2 which didnt have reserves

Even though Vision is my alltime favorite superhero, ive NEVER owned a copy of this book so i was really :cloud9: to finally get one!

You outbid me on both you bourgeois bastich!

Congrats on both of them, they were pretty sweet.

This evening seems to be filled with more reserve offerings in the Pedigree auction then last night...consequently, I was going through the listings a lot faster this morning. Picked up a handful of nice books, but mostly stuff in the $100-$150 range.

Can't believe I struck out with the CC auction on day 1. Will try again tonight.

As for the grouping, I really hate it James. Three auctions to try and put bids in on one night? No thanks! Between work, family, and everything else going on, finding a couple of spare hours isn't easy. Not sure what the logic is on the part of the various auction houses...I can't imagine it helps the final selling prices to have so much up for sale at the same time.

Sweet pick-up on the FF # 2 BTW. I was in the bidding for a while, but I had a feeling it would push several thousand above my max because it was so nice. One of my favorite FF stories of all time, since it read more like a Kirby/Lee Monster story of the era then a superhero comic.

Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed in the things you did NOT do...than in the things you did!

So this is what I did.

NICE PICKUP! That's the one book I have left to get, I'm jealous!

How did that $8700 final amount compare to recent market prices? I follow AF15 prices but can't remember how much 5.0 copies go for. I'm a bit surprised Metro didn't slab that.

lol, sorry!

For what they went for though, it wasnt exactly strong bidding especially on the 57.

I'm torn on them all being on 1 night. For the most part, the books i want dont overlap in the different auctions so it should be ok for me. There are going to be a few REALLY hectic 10-15 minutes blocks for me.

And ditto, that FF2 is INSANE!!!

Oh I definitely agree with you there, I just meant I like the grouping together of "look what I won" threads for all the March auctions into one thread, even if they weren't all the same week as they happen to be this month.

You going to get it slabbed?

hey Jason, that's my plan and to hold on to it as long as possible, it's been a challenge holding onto this dough and waiting for the ideal AF15 to come by, and this book is getting out of control, so i was hoping to have gotten it sooner. Think I over paid?

GPA on a 5.0 is right around where you paid, so you're fine unless it's restored or overgraded, neither of which is unheard of, even from Metro. I'd be worried about why they didn't slab this book, but I suppose if their reputation and client base enables them to frequently fetch market price at this grade level anyway, that may be the reason it didn't get slabbed. Or maybe it's because they weren't sure it wouldn't come back lower, hard to say for us just by grading a scan. (shrug)

Perhaps I over paid to get it, it was hard to judge the "current" market, there has been some noise lately on this book and there is such a gap between 4.0 and 6.0 that 5.0 is hard to judge, but no chipping was my biggest concern and as the years go by the pain of last night purchase should be healed up.

Here are the big scans for everyone's reference:

Back cover -- http://www.comicconnect.com/data/Image/gallery/ama12.346b.jpg

The edges and back look fantastic, why's it even as low as 5.0? It could be as high as 6.x from what I can see in the scan.

A little risky since its raw but if it grades a 5.0, you got a GREAT deal based on what 5.0's have been going for lately. If somehow you get lucky and get a 5.5, you'll be dancing in the streets at that price

A LCS near me actually a raw that is probably a 5.0 that ive been thinking about getting. It isnt technically for sale but he will sell it to me if i want. He doesnt use GPA and his OSPG "price" is well below what they are going for now. A little scared that my grading isnt up to par though and it will grade a 4.0-4.5.

I know someone who just purchase a 5.0 for $12k that being said it was a great deal. But not so fast, it's raw and no guarantee it will grade at 5.0
