When I was collecting comics between 1979-1984 I collected all of the new "Mystery in Space" books. At the time I didn't have the foggiest idea why they started at 111 because at the time I didn't know it was a continuation of the existing series. The format was better IMHO: Horror in outer space--no cheesy Adam Strange stuff here (but he's cool too-for his time).

So, I present the covers from my collection in order with some tidbits:

This first cover gives me chills. I don't know what it is about Kubert, but he could draw any genre and give the desired effect...

i had been ignoring those, but i think i have to have them.... man oh man! Speaking of Kubert, i used to think he was OK when i was younger, but like Toth i now have IMMENSE appreciation for what he did. His simplicity is powerful, yet deceiving. this cover is now on eof my all time favorites.

The cover story was really warped...

That is a cool cover!

There are nice covers artwise, then there are nice covers that pique your interest about the subject matter or story. This being one of those, I need to know why they are praying to that dead astronaut! thumbsup2.gif

For a long time I considered both WWT and MIS to be on "another tier" compared to the standard DC horror of HoS, Unexpected, etc. Translation: I didn't really collect them, and only picked up a copy if one was included in a bulk set I had purchased.

THEN one day I saw that "Burnt Offerings" cover of MiS (also the title of a movie, BTW) and knew I was looking at a classic. I've had a newfound appreciation for that run ever since then. As for WWT, well I've only started getting turned onto this title thanks to the posts in this thread courtesy of SHIV & the gang. Very cool stuff! WWT #44 reminds me of that story in the HEAVY METAL movie where the bomber goes down over that island in the Pacific & ..... 893blahblah.gif

A moment of silence for Greggy, who could not come through for one of his four favorite books of all time.....

At that price, the "winner" is a LOSER. So I guess that means you "won" it? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

So if Greggy did win it, he is a loser? confused-smiley-013.gif
