I rarely venture into the 35-cent variant thread, but wasn't there a big bru-ha-ha last year over this exact same scenario?

True...but that's an entirely different beast altogether in my eyes. Those guys are usually finding variants hidden among normal common issues. That usually takes a fair amount of work and I can understand to a point why remaining quiet would be preferable.

This is an art cover. It's on eBay. Not some mom and pop auctioneer. It's like comparing apples and oranges. People aren't likely to confuse it for the real thing...

I know, it's rare, but I agree with Jim on this one. The only reason I can see that someone would be upset that an auction in progress is brought up here, is if that person was hoping to keep it a secret so that they may get a better price on it.

But since we are all pals here, I think offering a heads up to each other when a rare item comes up is a friendly gesture. I'm all for it.

I don't see a problem with pointing it out either. As was stated, this isn't even the first time this piece has been offered on ebay recently. I don't think any ebay auction of a Cardy cover by a top dealer is going to be flying under the radar of most people who would normally be interested (and who will most likely be winning the item). I imagine the "watching" list on the item is already significant after less than a day.

I also doubt "thrill" bidding will impact the sale price either. Simply put, it is going to go for whatever it is going for, that is just how original art (and comics in general) seems to go. Just my opinion, I am sure some will disagree, but it's all good.

Who's nitpicking? It's a legitimate question... And I've contributed quite nicely to this thread over the last year so don't make any accusations I'm just here to cause trouble. Regardless, who designated you forum police today anyway?

Jim

I did. grin.gif

Hey, I just think we need to lighten up here. That's all. Criticizing posts you don't agree with kinda makes me frown.gif

Sterling, just curious: do the HOM dollar books even exist in 9.6/9.8, given their tendency to have bindery tears, corner problems, etc?

Yep, they are there. Earlier dollar comics are harder to find that the later ones in high grade, but they are out there... the highest grade I have in the HoM Dollar comics are 9.6. I've routinely seen later dollar comics in 9.6/9.8. But you have to wait and keep your eyes peeled for them....

This is a public forum, and eBay is a public auction house. Forgive me for pointing out something people here might be interested in. I wasn't aware you had a monopoly on the sales of Ghosts covers. foreheadslap.gif

so why not post after the auction, so then we can be certain about something (bidding/interest had little to do with posting the auction here).

This is a public forum...No? Maybe people like to see auctions in progress than after they have ended. In fact, there are many such examples at any one time on this Forum. This Forum should be pushing info to those that may have an interest..not after it's ended and possibly irrelevant to those possibly wanting to obtaining an item. At that point it usually becomes a "look what I got and you didn't" exercise in futility...

oh, and if you get a chance, please post any/all auctions that you may be interested in bidding on. finally, others' mentality can rarely be explained.

I will...Thanks! Because, frankly, if you think another item like this is going to fall under the radar, I fear you're greatly mistaken. I couldn't care less whether someone posts an auction I'm interested in here or anywhere else. Either I want the item at a certain price or not. I'm not wishing for a secret cabal to keep it quiet for me...

Nice books OF! It's great to keep seeing you sig line get smaller and smaller. 893applaud-thumb.gif

That will never happen with me though as the more I see in these threads my list grows faster than I can fill in my runs. frown.gif

27_laughing.gif Yeah, I try and limit the books in my sig. My real list is 6 legal pages long though! 893whatthe.gif I think it doubled in the first few months I started posting here. In any case, it's enough to keep me off the streets for years to come.

With Death and Raven also? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

As well as Dr Fate, Dr Strange, Clea, Morpheus, Scarlet Witch, Witchblade, Harry Potter, Prometheus, Demon, Ghost Rider(?), Gandalf, Diablo, Phantom Stranger (really nice profile shot), Spectre, Mr Mxyzptlk, Zatanna, Ghost, the Seven Dwarfs, and a couple of others I can't place...

It goes on for a couple of pages. Gotta give CG credit, if you're going to use characters without authorzation, might as well not descriminate by just using one company's characters...

I'm sure you folks know this one already, but it just arrived this afternoon and I can't resist! One of my fave bronze horror issues. I just love those Wrightson covers. cloud9.gif
