I bet you could have won a (comic convention) bar bet asking which issue was Kubert's first DC war cover.

Is that a trick question because Our Fighting Forces #3 came out at the same time as All-American Men of War #18? :baiting:

That's what I get for relying on Bedrock's info!

OFF 3 is Feb-Mar 1955 and AAMoW is Feb 1955.  Possible that AAMoW hit the stands first? hm

Do both indicias and the statement of ownership for the AAMOW issue tell you anything? (shrug)

When Kubert was a guest at a Houston show a few years ago I showed him AAMOW 18 and he said it was his first war cover. I assume he would have known.

But maybe he was humoring me.

That's good enough for me. Thanks for clearing things up, Mr. B! (thumbsu

Somewhere I've got pictures of him from that show. I will post them when I find them. He was really a great guy to talk with. Totally engaged and he enjoyed to question as well as answer.

Isn't there a site somewhere that lists dates when books hit the stands (at least for some books)?  I seem to remember there was a boardie who used to post that kind of data when issues like this came up. hm

Just to be argumentative ... might he have said the same thing if you had shown him OFF 3?  After 50+ years, he might not have had a clear recollection of which of two covers that must have been done at about the same time he did first ... or maybe it was memorable enough for him that it stuck in his mind. Or he might have drawn one first but the other was published first. Or ... or ... or

Some other possible evidence might come from tracking down copies with date stamps.

Maybe #18 was his first cover, but it was published AFTER his 2nd cover.  Ever think about that?  Huh? Huh?...:slapfight:

No wonder they call you Tri-Color (thumbsu

Tricolor Books is the name of my publishing company.

The name comes from my first book, about snakes that are called "tricolors"...
