Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

I believe gay people are aware of their orientation from the get go (can any of the gay board members chime in).

I'm queer - And I was born that way - but I was 28 when I realized which kind of queer, and that there was a label for it, and there were other people like me. I wasn't repressing anything - I had just never heard of Asexuality.

Our public understanding of what it means to be "Gay" has changed dramatically in the past 50 years. Lots of people in 1963 would and did not identify as "gay" because they A. weren't aware there was such a thing. or B. Their awareness of what it meant to be "gay" didn't resonate with what they were feeling, and/or C. If they accepted they were such a thing, they would be fired from their job, disowned by their family, arrested by the police, or ruined completely. I assure you that LOTS of 18 year olds who would come out today, would not/did not come out 50 years ago.

And now: back to which Moderns are Heating up on eBay*

*fun inside joke for long time thread readers, since only like 5% of the posts in here are ever on topic.

First of all, your opening statement just made some heads explode. :golfclap:

Second, my son (not biological) is 8. Both his mom and I are almost 100% sure he's gay. Not because he plays with barbies, or loves girls shows, or likes to wear makeup and lipstick and dress up like a girl, but because whenever we watch a show, or have a conversation that has anything to do with questioning sexuality and being different, he sits quietly and pays attention and asks questions. Any other show or topic and he's off in space. We think he is still trying to understand who he is etc. I mean, he's 8. but what I'm getting at is, if he IS gay, or bi, or queer, or whatever. He hasn't had any influences from family, especially his dad who is super homophobic but has two gay siblings. Go figure.

So, back to Bobby. Yes, I find it strange that this is just manifesting now in the decades since his creation, but they are relating to the Times.

And at the end if the day. Who cares what he does or who he loves. He can turn a mutha into ice. It doesn't change much of anything really.

On a separate note, I don't find ice man interesting. So more speculating now.

So Jean Gray can now determine gay thoughts from anyone? Really bad storytelling on Bendis' part. He has turned into such a hack.

Is this just speculation based on news of the upcoming issue, or has this been established in the comic? (I haven't read an X-Men book in years.) I could see a scenario, much like how people read body language to gauge a person's emotional state, that maybe there's a similar way for those with mental abilities to get a feel on the fluctuations of a person's emotional state based on mental energy. When one notices the changes in a person that occur when they're attracted/aroused during an encounter of someone of the same sex, one determines that the person is gay.

It's a little more nuanced than "determin[ing] gay thoughts"

Anyone heard that their Boba's are shipped yet?

Nope, and I contacted him yesterday, but no response. He's getting hammered with emails and prepping for the show.. They might not actually go out until next week I'm thinking. I have no proof of that, but there's no way he and his wife could get 3800+ comics out in 2 days.

Maybe because this, as all other "modern" definitions of "sexuality" have a predominantly arbitrary quality?

Everyone can say he or she "feels" in a certain way. The bottom line is that "scientifically" there is nothing definite about feelings, nor about where they come from, and the most paradoxical thing about this post-modern inconsistent culture is that the most enervated sentimentalism or sensual instance is maintained in the name of "reason".

With sensual = attaining to the senses. Not specifically related to intercourse.

So now it seems fine to affirm whatever nonsense in the name of some emotional response, while reasoning becomes optional. And you see that from the lack of agreement in any field, and if you have good eyes you also see the results. Not world peace, it seems.

I grabbed 3 Kanan 1's from BAM, I don't feel bad owning almost any Marvel SW at this point.

I agree. I'm curious if the older, and newer for that matter, Dark Horse books pick up any steam as the movie gets closer or does the overall market just dismiss them. I was a fan of many of them but few brought much in the way of investment.

There are a lot of key first appearances in those DH books that are often overlooked. I just hope Max Von Sydow is Darth Plagueis not Kanan.

this thread could go completely off the rails so easily

Nah, we're an easy going, hot modern loving group in here...

Anyway, in our area, Darth Vader 1 seems to be quietly drying up.
