Themed Art Galleries

42 posts in this topic

I thought having the list in the middle of a different thread was awkward so I've created this new thread and made it the first post. As updates arrive, I will update the first post and mention the change in a new post.

Below is the latest list of known Theme Art Galleries. It is not exhaustive, but there are a lot of great collections to visit. The only real rule is that the theme be in a gallery. If a theme is scattered across multiple galleries, I won't post the link because it's too hard to see the theme. Sorry about that. Otherwise, assuming it's not illegal, immoral, or hate filled (my judgement), I'm going to list it.

I grouped these by source of inspiration as follows:

  • Concepts - The idea dominates the contents
  • Literature - Non-comic literature drives the contents
  • Movies and Actors - Cinema and those that drive it
  • Music and Musicians
  • Single Characters
  • Re-assembled Books or Book Sections
  • Teams and Team-Ups

If anyone can suggest better categorizations or just doesn't like where something is let me know and I'll work on it.

Also, where possible, I used real names (first and last). If anyone objects, please let me know.

BTW, it is sheer chance that my gallery comes up first, really!

Thanks for all the new galleries!

I've added suggestions from Tom Horvitz' WWII Disney Art, Hiroshi recommended galleries (Rico Renzi and Rob Jewell), a bunch from Michael Dunne, and Michael Finn's Victory Parade. Rob Jewell must have a dozen wonderful theme galleries. I chose to list two (Crystal of the Inhumans and the Inhumans) as opposed to each one separately, but please take a look a the main gallery because there are lots more good ones.

I want to mention one thing. I want to be very inclusive, but if the theme art isn't collected into a gallery (or galleries), I can't really put it on the list. The list is supposed to make it easier to find the theme art and searching through many separate galleries doesn't match the theme of the thread.

I've stretched this a couple of times (as you can see in the list) where in my opinion, I could use a mechanism to see most of the art on one link, but I can't find a way to do that in all cases.

The major issue seems to be that people liked to sort their art on the CAF by artist and so the theme got scattered. Now that the CAF does the "by artist" on the main gallery page, it is possible to regroup your art without losing the "by artist" connection. That's a lot of work though.

Anyway, I hope that I haven't offended anyone with this rule.
