The 2011 CGC Boards Holiday Raffle thread!

1,849 posts in this topic

Greetings all, from your friendly neighbourhood HolidayHam! :hi:

This is the official prize thread for our Holiday Raffle. :acclaim:

Cut-off for prize donations is December 22nd. Target date for the drawing is Thursday, December 29th.

I will list the rules and requirements below. :rulez:

If you are in the Gift Exchange, you are automatically entered into the Raffle with a chance to win prizes. For all of those that are in the Gift Exchange, you have already told me through our PM whether you are donating a prize or not. If you elect to donate a prize for the Raffle, and haven't told me what it is yet, please PM me through our already-opened PM exchange.

If you are not part of the Gift Exchange, yet would still like to be in the Raffle, you will need to donate a prize. Simply PM me your Raffle prize and you will automatically be entered into the Raffle and therefore eligible to win prizes.

Your name will only be entered once in this draw, no matter how many prizes you donate. I know that's not an incentive to donate more than one prize, but feel free to do so if you'd like. :foryou:

As of right now, I don't know how many prizes will be donated, but this is the way it's going to go, as far as Raffle winners and number of prizes they may choose:

1st name drawn is top prize and he/she will choose 5 prizes.

2nd name drawn is 2nd prize and he/she will choose 3 prizes.

3rd name drawn is 3rd prize and he/she will choose 3 prizes.

4th name drawn is 4th prize and he/she will choose 2 prizes.

5th name drawn is 5th prize and he/she will choose 2 prizes.

Names will continue to be drawn until all prizes available will be spoken for.

1st place will not choose 5 prizes in a row, the choosing of the prizes will be in a non-snaking formation from 1st to last, then 1st to 5th, then 1st to 3rd, then 1st and 1st once again for the last choice. Understand? Doesn't matter, I do. (thumbs u

Now that all the details have been mentioned, it's time to see the prizes. :whee:

Item #21- "(Some Of) The Best of Peter David and the Hulk"

This "Best Of" set has been approved by Green! He gives it his endorsement in the form of his Green Thumb of Approval

Over a 12 year run (unheard of today) Peter David created what is, and will probably remain, my favorite run by a writer in the history of comics. And it didn't hurt that he was backed by a revolving door of superstar artists such as Todd McFarlane, Sam Keith, Dale Keown and Gary Frank.

After 25 years of single-minded "Hulk Smash/It Ain't Easy Being Green/Hulk Like Puppies" stories, David breathed life into one of Marvel's poorest sellers and made it one of their best. It was funny, intelligent, brutal, depressing and outrageous. And always well written.

When the regular artist lagged (this wasthe early 1990's and the era of the comic artist as rock star) and David had to deliver a "fill in issue" he consistently hit a solo home run. It's a crime to even refer to them as 'fill-ins" since some of the very best issues in the run were one-shots. In issue #368 with artist Sam Keith, David took what could have been a simple Hulk vs. Mr Hyde battle and made it his own. I won't elaborate since this issue is included in this set. A Doc Samson tale (#380) in which the Hulk didn't even appear was....intense. And #378 in which the Rhino gets a job as a Department Store Santa and ends up (of course) fighting the grey Hulk remains one of the funniest comics I've ever read and by far my favorite Christmas themed comic.

Picking 15 of the "best" Hulk books from his run is impossible - it really is one giant storyline. What I did was made a list of those that stood out the most to me as I reread the run (for about the 22nd time) earlier this year.

So here's a set of what I consider to be many of Peter's best tales from his run. All issues are in NM- to NM+ condition and make a perfect sampler for those who are considering reading the whole run. donated by Kramerica

Item #64- War Stories A Graphic History

192 Pages, full color throughout, tons of war comic covers and interior pages from US and foreign comics.

Per Amazon

As long as comic books have existed, there have been comics about war. War Stories: A Graphic History is the first book to examine this genre of comics in depth, tracing the development of warfare—from Thermopylae to the Napoleonic Wars; the American Revolutionary and Civil Wars to World Wars I and II; and from the Korean and Vietnam Wars to modern day conflicts—through the eyes of some of comics' greatest creators.

Through the filter of sequential art, this lush and exciting visual compilation explores the history of global conflict—from the Alamo to Pearl Harbor, from Dunkirk to Iraq and Afghanistan—and features exquisite art from around the world.

Includes a foreword by Garth Ennis. donated by jaydog

Item #65- Poor Mans Action 1 donated by Ze-man

3 separate jars with interior chips from an original, vintage Action 1. (the winner will get 1 jar)

Each jar contains pieces that were a by product of restoring a brittle action 1, the interior especially. But there is a mix of interior and cover scraps in each jar, and the jars are actually fuller now.

Graciously donated by the owner for this raffle, Kenny is just a good for nothing middle man.(his own words)

Raffle winner may pick one jar, or all three if they are still available when their turn comes round again. And yes the dime will be included.

Jeep Comics #2. Century Pub. Circa 1945. Contents inside appear to be from Golden Lad #3 (Spark Pub - USA). No Jeep and Peep are to be found in here. And the contents are in color except for the final page in B&W with a house ad for Century comics. As issued. I believe Cetury had the rights to reprint Spark's comics such as Golden Lad. Condition on this issue I would put at a 2.0 mainly due to spine wear. Everything is holding together though.

Americana in Four Colors - Twenty Years of Self-Regulation by the Comics Magazine Industry by John L Goldwater. Published by the Comics Magazine Association of America Inc in 1972. This is the softcover reissue in 1974.48-pg booklet includes several sections covering various aspects of the comics medium, format and history as well as the actual comics code.

So, as most of you know, all of last years raffle was put up for auction to benefit my family and I when our house burned. This caused people here to donate more things to auction off. Not to mention all of the cash donations. We will always be thankful for everything you guys have done for us. Thanks to you guys, we were able to recover from this and get back to a normal life. I don't see how this could have happened without your help. I picked up some books this fall with the intention of donating them to the raffle this year. I tried to buy an assortment so the winners of the raffle might find something they like.

These are all seperate donations.

X-men #28 CGC 8.0

Avengers #33 CGC 9.2

Strange Adventures #17 CGC 7.5

Amazing Spiderman #26 CGC 6.5

Fantastic Four #36 CGC 7.5

Sgt. Fury and his howling commandos #13 CGC 6.0

Tales to Astonish #59 CGC 6.5

Silver Surfer #4 CGC 9.0 (Book was pressed by Joeypost)

Incredible Hulk #4 CGC 3.5

Fantastic Four #55 CGC 8.0
