Wizard New Orleans -- Report

70 posts in this topic

It was a joy to meet TwoPenis. I had the best time, and my only problem was that he hit on my wife and we only got to spend mere moments together.

Hell, Bill was hitting on the girl passing out flyers so I think it's another one of his OCD things. He didn't have any luck with the flyer girl either.

BTW, nice to meet you as well. I'm the guy from Slidell.

Seaneffingfirecrotch is the man for making my first SS experience a breeze.

Ogami kept referencing Sean during that part of our conversation covering Stan Lee Sigs. He would say Sean & I would look more confused than usual.

Sean! Who? Sean! Who?

effingfirecrotch you brainfarter! Gotcha!

It was convention food court kabuki theatre performed for New Orleans by Ogami & TupennyConan of the CGC Message Boards Players.

PS shortly after saying goodbye I found a text on my cell from an unknown MS area number which read "cad." I thought it best not to issue a reply text.

Hey man, it was good to meet you too.

Let's catch up in PM's. Sorry our meeting was so short. I met you pre-Stan, so time didn't allow me to dawdle.

Hey Bill, you want to see my impression of Stan Lee? This is Stan, after me placing my four books in front of him.

"Where would you like me to sign 'em?"

(This, after extensive prepping by SeanFireCrotch approved SS methodology, of which, I was assured Stan was keenly aware)

:roflmao:

On time Stan Grabbed an Amazing Spider-Man number 3 and said " Oh look another cover I am about to deface" lol. Mike Carbonaro slid an Amazing Fantasy 15 on the empty table when no one was around and left it for awhile, the Desert Wind lady (not Sharon) covered it up when Damien (in photo) mentioned something

An unexpected surprise was running into Roy. A two hug surprise. :cloud9::cloud9:

I arrived Thursday evening and was there Friday and Saturday and proceeded to fly out to Yorba Linda for Terry's show Saturday night.

Nate, I should have given you a 3rd! Sorry I couldn't stay and talk long...glad to finally meet you!

(thumbs u

Tupenny was a surprise as I had assumed he was coming Saturday evening from my communication with him.

Saw all the usual suspects and twas good to see you all! (thumbs u

Did some decent shopping there thanks to the quality of dealers.

There was also a father/son team who had brought a terrific collection of everything across the board (low to high grade, gold to silver) and I was lucky enough pick up a few choice books including some really high grade Nedor and Fiction House.

Foot traffic seemed great and all in all it was surprisingly a success. I say that because based on what I had heard about New Orleans last year, I didn't expect it to be a big show.

--------------------------------------------

Walking Canal and Bourbon in the evenings was a heck of a lot of fun. In the evenings on the way back to my hotel (I stayed at the Renaissance on TchHoulopopis or whatever it's called :pullhair: ) I would walk through the Casino every night.

On Thursday night after arriving I went out for dinner with robbiec to NOLA (famous restaurant where Italian Mylar dealers are now banned) and had some killer fried chicken. We walked around for the better part of the night as Robbie, who happens to be quite the historian when it comes to New Orleans, gave me a personal tour of the French Quarter. Thanks for the tour, Robbie!

After a good long walk, Robbie headed home and I alone took a walk through the casino where I bumped into Borock who was hitting the Black Jack table and doing mighty fine. Nice to see you, buddy!

I headed back to the hotel late, late Thursday night and hit the sack dreaming about how I could learn Borock's black jack secrets!

---------------------------------------------

Friday headed over to the show to see the usual suspects and decided to go it alone Friday night for dinner since most of the crew was going to NOLA's again. I decided to eat at a quaint place called Lucy's across the road from my hotel on Touche-frigging-opolous St. :censored: I'll never learn how to say it right unless I'm reading it.

If you get the chance, check out Lucy's. The food is terrific, the place is quaint, there is a small open air bar out back and the people are friendly.

Just to add my little touch of personal "con report - r1970d/VintageComics style", on Friday night after hanging at Lucy's and walking the French Quarter again, I walked through the Casino on the way back to the hotel. As I was leaving the casino, I had a bunch of muscle bound dudes make fun of me (in a nice way) and ask me if I was a musician. I joked around with them a bit and told them about the con.

Turns out they were pro wrestlers and one of them, who's wresting name is Luke Hawx, told me he wanted to take his 13 year old sun to the show but didn't have tickets. I managed to get hold of a Wizard rep at 2:30 AM and locate some tickets for the guy (who says Wizard does not aim to please!).

To thank me, the next day after they spent Saturday at the show, Luke (actually called Oren outside the ring) insisted on driving me to the airport. Long story short, Luke is a super nice, sweetheart of a guy and we clicked. It seems I've made a friend for life.

I boarded my plane (got a bump to 1st class and sat 2 freaking rows behind William Shatner who was also headed to LA!!!) and made a stop in Dallas before hitting LA for the night.

There you have it folks...my short and sweet, first NOLA experience.

Tupenii, thanks for the opportunity to share!
